Three Times Lucky
Lucky Monday
It’s Monday and I am grumpy because; one) my favorite football team lost over the weekend and two) I had to wake up to run a million errands. I try to shake the Monday blues with three mugs of coffee but the smog won’t lift yet. Might as well accept that today is going to be a bummer of a day and get on with it.
I have a welding job at an upcoming industry and so I rush to get that done before rush hour s I can get home and relax already. Just when I am getting to the second arc, the heavy piece of metal I am welding through snaps into two and falls a few inches off my foot. This immediately lifts the cloud in my brain as I break down with a mix of emotion and relief. Might as well call it a day before I kill something.
Shark Scare
I am swimming in the Indian Ocean and I just get carried away as I go when I float on water. This particular day, my mind was in all sorts of places; thinking about a recent breakup, my financial situation, and a business that was yet to pick. This escape to the Maldives was my break and I just wanted to be alone. Well, I succeeded when the calm waves lulled me into nearly the center of the island. By the time I realized I was too far from the shoreline, the waters had turned choppy and if the fishermen who rescued me are to be believed, treading on sharkville.
Missed Opportunity
I had applied for this fellowship that I believed would change my life. On the week I was to receive correspondence from the organizers, I left the city but that was no point of concern as email reaches every part of the world. I ended up being caught up in the worst storm that rendered Florida unreachable for a week and hence missed the deadline set for correspondence. I still beat myself up for that to date.
