I’m super excited to have been challenged by @candid.kelly to do the #abookaday challenge. 📚📚📚📚 This is (one of) the books I am currently reading. A historical novel based on the life of Richard III. I like historical novels because they challenge me to read up on the actual history and make me appreciate how easy life is for us in the modern age. I find myself reading increasingly through a feminist lens and I’m pleased that the female characters in Sharon Penman’s novel are all well drawn, believable women. This book also represents my friendship with @sarahwrigh7, who I met when I came to Jersey. A fellow #bibliophile, we practice the Icelandic tradition of giving books to each other on Christmas Eve (although we don’t always get the chance to spend the evening reading them as they do in Iceland). In Iceland there are so many books at this time it is called a #jolabokaflod, literally a flood of books. We’ve decided to share with each other novels that we have loved ourselves and it’s been a great success because although we read similarly there is always more to discover. I’m about two thirds of the way through this book, it’s a hefty 1000 pages or so. Don’t be put off - it’s a great read. . . . . . #thesunneinsplendour #sharonpenman #historicalnovel #ilovebooks #theresnothinglikethesmellofanewbook #dontbreakthespine #bookaday #booksofinstagram #thisanxiousadventurer #digitalhumanbeans #icelandictradition #iceland (at Trinity, Jersey) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bnb15POFxMC/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=12jmnkv4iqpsc
