View including birches ablaze with autumnal colour and a super silver Great Grey Shrike at Shatterford in the New Forest 2nd November 2025. The Great Grey Shrike my first seen in five years (the first shrike of any description I've seen since 2020 in fact) and it was a very sweet sighting of a striking bird. Shrikes seemed one of the only groups we hadn’t managed to see a species from this year in our amazing year of birds so it was good to squeeze one in.

Merlin flying over, Dartford Warbler, Fieldfares, cross-leaved heath and sulphur tuft were other highlights on the circular walk here starting and ending at Denny Wood. A fantastic wild weekend.

24/11/24-Views, lichen and Mistle Thrush on a walk from Shatterford in the New Forest this afternoon

The golden hues of bog myrtle leaves and larch needles brought delightful colour on another murky day with Carrion Crow, Black-headed Gull, Kestrel, Meadow Pipit, Starlings seen nicely in groups again this weekend, gorse, heather gone over, bracken, bramble leaves, New Forest Ponies and a Fallow Deer seen well also good to see on the walk. Blue Tit, Goldfinch and Collared Dove were good to see at home today.

Photos from a lovely long weekend I’ve had, Great Crested Grebe and periwinkle at Lakeside Country Park and Egyptian Goose and Muscovy Duck at Petersfield Heath Pond on Friday, two views at Shatterford in the New Forest yesterday, daffodil in the front garden and Woodlark at Acres Down in the New Forest today and Coot and view at Petersfield Heath Pond on Friday.

Pigeon in the garden this evening and views and British soldier's lichen on a walk from Shatterford in the New Forest today 25/01/2026. Treecreeper seen for a third time in a week, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Raven, Fallow Deer, gorse and holly berries were other highlights on the walk with Starlings also enjoyed at home. Another brilliant weekend.

26/02/2023-Shatterford in the New Forest this morning and bits at home 

Photos taken today in this set: Five views at Shatterford on a glorious sunny morning where the pines, conifers and other trees were glowing as well as water, bog and heath it was so nice to be out in this landscape, two of a beautiful female Blackbird I really enjoyed seeing in the garden when home and viburnum, a mini daffodil and pink flower in the garden which were lovely to see too. 

Key fauna and flora sightings at Shatterford were beautiful Dartford Warbler, a fair few Stonechats, lovely Goldcrest, great views of Redwing and Mistle Thrush and shiny yellow in flower gorse. I got stunning views of a great group of Fallow Deer and a Buzzard on the way home. Goldfinches on the balcony feeders which I got precious time with this afternoon being in and downstairs at this part of the day due to the set up of today for us and Starlings have been other birds I enjoyed from home today.
