Today, we're doing some actual science on Longing For Rotkehlchen. That's why we're showing you this side-by-side comparison of confusing thrushes. The differences are the ones shown in the photos, like what should I add. And why does this matter anyway? Well, it turns out, Misteldrossel totally hates Singdrossel, and that seems to me like a pretty serious reason not to mix them up.

Another Daglish Feathursday

Here are some more wood-engraved renderings of birds by British author and wood engraver Eric Fitch Daglish (1892-1966) from his book  Birds of the British Isles,  published in London by J. M. Dent & Sons in 1948 in a limited edition of 1500 copies, with 23 black and white and 25 hand-colored wood engravings by Daglish. Want to know more about these feathery fellows? Here you go:

day 2 ......... mistle thrush and song thrush ♡

the mistle thrush is a large species of thrush found in much of europe, in addition to portions of asia and north africa. they are the largest thrush species native to europe. they have soft grey uppersides, and speckled undersides; the sexes have no identifiable differences in plumage. as their name implies, they are crucial to the spread of mistletoe seeds; this bird feeds on insects, seeds and fruits, and prefers fruits and seeds from mistletoe, holly, and yew.

Mistle Thrush, I think. I'm not an expert in bird identification. My granda just saved me the bird spotting section of his newspaper and this looks the same

Ok, this Peregrine Falcon threw a pigeon at my window to stun it. Scared the shit out of me but I forgive it for letting me take these photos, first from my bedroom window and then from the kitchen directly below my bedroom. Look how cool this guy is

EDIT: I've been told this is actually a Eurasian sparrowhawk. Still a cool find in my back garden tho
