Part of a Part of Something Larger
I never told you this but i dreamed of these floods, of this perpetually falling water, of the deepness that divides us and connects us all at the same time.
like the empty space between stars, like the stillness between breaths and the spaces between the words on a story you never finish before falling asleep.
I thought of sending you messages in glass bottles, of lighting and blowing out candles in slow forms of morse code and then i simply thought of you in motion and hoped to be picked up on the wind of what you'd leave behind as you blew through the street and softly turned corners when forward wasn't an option.
It turns out the bottles collected unopened all picked up and put down as the waves came, like the furling and unfurling of the comforter as you ease it back onto the bed after picking it with both hands and flapping it like you were the breeze blowing against this sideways flag of sleep. The morse code slowed it self so far that it became in tune with the rising and setting of sun, only late in the evenings as the last of the sunset dipped into darkness did the ember of wick glow bright red and hot for one moment more, so quickly did the exchange happen that the moon always had a small window with little time to shine its white light strong enough to see the wisp of smoke rise in a small tendril that dissipated before its rising thread hit the ceiling.
As you tossed and turned under covers and breathed deeply, constellations ran their circles and ovals overhead and underfoot propelled by yawns and sleeping sighs caught in the blankets of invisible sails.
