"Writer VS Characters" Where we answer a few questions related to our opinion on NPCs.
I was tagged by @flowering-boquests , who also writes @without-origin-if . So, thank you so much for that!
I'll fill this out for In Time, even if that story and me aren't friends right now (really, it's not In Time's fault, but oof).
Favorite character to write: I think it's unsurprising that Romare is very easy for me and I am fond of him. Because of the limited POV of the IF, people might not understand how true this is, but Romare is just an angry old hermit stuck in the body of a hot swordsmaster, and being in his head makes me laugh. Eiden is coming up (they actually appeared in what was LOST) and I've enjoyed him so far too. They're just a little shit.
Least favorite to write: Honestly nobody comes to mind. Nobody shows up and makes me go UGH. Kind of leading into the next, some are sometimes less fun.
Most frustrating to write: The Heir. I have them in my head as who they are, and then there is the view the MC has of them that conflicts and it's a pain in the ass to balance that. Dalmar and Vasil I expect to be the most difficult ROs to write. Dalmar is cold and obsessive, and Vasil is a very powerful old creature with too much knowledge and boredom.
Character who surprised you the most (whatever reason): Malik I suppose. I knew I needed some kind of side character to exist for the role he's got in the story, and not much more than that. But he's blossomed nicely and fills it well. I'm sure he's not everybody's cup of tea, but he's a fresh addition in my opinion to what is currently a cast of Serious No Fun Nancy's.
Character you hope people will like: Romare. Honestly, if somebody doesn't like him this is probably not the story for them. While other characters are required and MC might have to deal with them in some sort of vaguely polite manner, Romare is a character who is staying and no matter what is important to MC. So far, most people are fond of him it seems though, which is good. (the same could be said of MC, but that's given, sorta, in an IF).
Character you worry people might hate: This feels like a rewording of the previous one. Not saying Romare, I'm not sure? I suppose hating any of the ROs also kinda sucks. I mean, you don't have to like them, but hating feels like maybe I failed in conveying them as worth any sort of MC you could come up with (I say, after mentioning what kind of ass Dalmar is)
Any characters that are buzzing about at the end of your mind, but have no place in the story (yet): No? I have many characters but they just get tossed in another story bucket. I suppose a more Villain RO Trope is something I wish I could use more but didn't really fit here. Otherwise I got most tropes in I wanted for this story.
Any characters you wonder might be better suited in a different story: Camille, honestly. I worry she's just going to end up out shined by others, especially since "stoic good with martial weapons/front line DPS" is a post filled with Romare and so people might not find her important since on surface level they are similar. Her backstory is also the one I keep flip flopping on.
Character you want to be friends with: Considering how much I enjoy loyalty themes, becoming a good friend to any of these characters is a boon. It comes with cons, of course. None of them are normal. Camille would be a good friend though, and Eiden would be fun.
Character you'd avoid IRL: I mean the antagonist is a cult so, them as a whole. I try to avoid that, especially the bigger members that are good at breaking people to their view. Vasil, not because it is a monster (as a resident monster fucker, that is not an issue). It is a very old creature and powerful enough to exist on whims. Also, it has had it's own cults to it, so same vein. I feel like I'd lose it's fancy, eventually, and that'd be difficult. Dalmar too, in real life, would at best be somebody who was already in all sorts of drama and that'd exhaust me, or at worst be some sort of criminal (which also brings drama) that I'd just kind have to nod at to get out of the convo and then avoid. I'd also probably not like MC in person. Entitled 1% brat.
If you want to do this, you are welcome to say I tagged you. I have a hard time interacting with the IF circles, for failings on my part, and also I think most that I know of have already done this?
So, yea, if you want to, you're welcome to say I tagged you.
Thank you again to Yellow for tagging me! ♡
