US Airways Flight 1549
10 years ago, on the 15th January of 2009, the Miracle on the Hudson happened. Struck by a flock of geese, the Airbus A320-214 lost all engine power about 3 minutes after takeoff from New York City´s LaGuardia Airport. With only around 975 meter (3200 foot) in the air they were unable to reach any airport. Pilots Chesley Burnett “Sully” Sullenberger III and Jeffrey B. Skiles glided the plane to a ditching in the Hudson River. All 155 people aboard could be rescued with only few serius injuries.
So thank you to the crew, Chesley B. Sullenberger, Jeffrey B. Skiles, Donna Dent, Sheila Dail, Doreen Welsh, to the ferry, the Tugboats, the fireboat John D. McKean and the ambulances from the New York City Fire Department, the boats and helicopters from the coastguard and the New York City Police Department for saving everyone.
