A Moment on the Surface
: A Moment On The Surface—Fan Fiction written by mun:
Rosso paced back and forth along the ledge of where she looked up to the false sky created by the ShinRa Company. She felt like a lioness trapped within a cage who would reach out a greedy claw at anyone who would mock her imprisonment. The crimson female gave a bored sigh as she looked over towards the dark male behind her. His crimson eyes bore through her as the plain expression on his features never once changed.
“Nero…how much longer must stay here? With the Restrictors gone we have our freedom within our grasp!” she snarled with her Romanian accent.
The dark male merely tilted his head as he shifted in his straight jacket that was triggered by his darkness. Whispers of his dark aura spun around him as he looked at the crimson female as a sigh escaped his lips from behind his mouth guard.
“We cannot make our move until Weiss has given us the signal to do so, you know that.” he says, his English accent rolling over his slurred words. “Besides…the entrance outside to the surface is blockaded by rubble from a recent explosion above. How do you suppose you get above, hm?”
She gave a hiss, throwing her arms up in the air. “I don’t care if there are a thousand bodies in my way! If I was granted a chance to make my way above I would make short work of anything preventing my arrival above!” she swore.
Nero tilted his head with interest at her. “Would you really? From what I have heard from the few surviving members of the ShinRa board that were here when it happened, many buildings fell. You would be at it for days, Rosso. Imagine…after finally making your way to the surface and you find yourself with little to no energy. A simple waste, if you ask me. ”
Rosso quickly reaches from behind herself to get her dual gunblade as she points it towards Nero with her eyes narrowed, displaying her short temper at the end of it’s fuse.
“Just watch me, Nero! I will be rid of this pointless prison and free to go wherever I wish!”
Though it did not show, Nero smirked under his mouth guard as he gave a light chuckle to her vow. “Is that so, Rosso? In that case..I suppose you could go to your heart’s content. Just ensure that you bring Azul with you. Combined strength from the two of you should be enough to grant desired results..”
Not another word was spoken from her as she dashed past the dark male. Nero thought idly to himself at Rosso’s actions. He could not blame her for the desire for freedom. He was born in bound chains that kept him from his beloved brother Weiss. So to yearn the sight of a true sky instead of a fabricated one made sense to him. He merely hoped that she was not disappointed by what she found when she finally made her way above.

Rosso was only a few feet from the passageway towards the know exit when she encountered Azul turning a corner. The powerful male paused as he saw the rushing crimson female and gave her a curious smirk as he crossed his arms over his chest. “Why in such a hurry, Rosso?” he teased.
Rosso gave a growling snarl to the male as she pointed her dual gunblade at him. “Move out of my way,Azul. I demand freedom and no one can keep me here against my will, not even you.“
Azul raised a brow of interest, his golden orbs looking down to her.
“The surface? Hmn..I suppose that sounds like a worthy task. With the Restrictors no longer controlling us, we can roam where we please if we were to escape. But there is a blockade ahead. You don’t suppose I am going to allow you to move on ahead solo do you?” he taunted with a laugh. “You would be stealing all of the fun!”
Her eyes narrowed slightly before lowering her weapon. As a member of DeepGround and an elite Tsivet,Rosso learned that the only way to get what she wanted from Azul was to appeal to his better nature. “If you will not allow me to pass now alone, then assist me in our escape. We do not belong here..to be sealed away like some tainted lab rats. We are perfection and deserved to be praised for our power!”
"Consider my assistance at your disposal,Rosso.“
"Come! Let us be rid of this pointless prison!”
Azul nods as he leads Rosso towards the exit and looks around the old damaged wall. It was obvious to see where the impacts of the destruction above landed. Without warning, he threw his right arm into the wall, breaking at least four layers of plaster and enforced metal.
Rosso walked around Azul to stand beside him to examine the hole in the wall he created. Her smirk grew.“Very impressive, Azul..” she chimed. “Now if only we can get through the ShinRa building and the blocked exits then we will be free.”
“Hmph..this was nothing. If the blockades are all like this then we should be out of here in no time..”
Rosso looked ahead at the blocked path ahead with a dark longing glance, her crimson orbs a glow. “That is what I love to hear. Freedom is in our grasp.."she purred with a grin.

Shelke sat by her control terminal as she looked through the data file of those in DeepGround. With the Restrictors no longer in power by the use of chips inside of every member, including those who were Tsviets, they were now able to act how they wanted without the painful pinch of the chips. When Argento and her overpowered the supercomputer, there was a chance that there could have been internal damage done to the neural network of everyone connected to the supercomputer.
She looks to the side with a blank stare. As a Tsviet with the abilities to connect with a network using her SND abilities, she always felt a connection to everyone in DeepGround. However, there seemed to be a gap in her mind when Argento was terminated during the battle against the Restrictors.Though she was void of most of her emotions, she certainly felt a sense of loss when she was gone. The woman was like a distant sister to her. A minor replacement of her sister Shaula.
The red haired transparent female closed her MAKO hued eyes as she lets out a deep sigh. There never seemed to be an end to the torture she would endure in DeepGround. How she wished to be back in Edge with her sister.
Shelke shook her head quickly. Thinking of the past and what she dreamed of was foolish and futile. The only thing she could do now was do what she was told and do what she had to in order to stay alive.
Returning back to her work, Shelke glanced through the network of the Tsviets and their locations within DeepGround.
As always, Weiss was in his throne room below MAKO Recator 0,Nero was within the halls. However, Azul and Rosso were near an exit of DeepGround and making their way through the ShinRa building.
"Why are they…?”
Nero appeared beside her through a portal of his darkness. “Are Rosso and Azul at the surface?"
Shelke was not going to question his knowledge of the whereabouts of the other two Tsviets. Afterall, he had the power of darkness at his finger tips and could sense life of others before they knew what hit them while hiding in the shadows. Instead, she simply answered him in an emotionless voice. "Indeed. It seems that both Azul and Rosso have managed to reach the surface and are currently making their way through the ruins of ShinRa manor.”
Nero nods. “Perfect. Ensure that they do not leave Midgar. Weiss should have plans for the two of them.”
Without another word, Nero leaves and goes into another dark portal to visit his brother.
——-
Below MAKO Reactor 0, Weiss sat on his throne with his head leaning back against the marble seat and his eyes closed to the secret world around him. For many years he had loathed being chained to this very throne for he sake that his ‘keepers’ could not control him and his unmatched strength.
But now that the chips inside those who dwelled in DeepGround were destroyed, he felt a new tinge in his mind. Whenever he closed his eyes,as he did now, he heard the voice of another within his mind. Distant…but still there. On and on the voice would lecture him of his superior skills of being a scientist that worked for ShinRa. Through the rantings of the voice, he learned that it’s name was Hojo.
Weiss merely cracked a slight smirk and laughed to himself. It was pitiful to see this supposed ‘superior’ scientist reduced to a mnemonic data fragment inside his mind. It was ironic really. All his life he had been chained to the throne under MAKO Reactor 0 as all those above ground were free to do as they wished; yet when he was finally free, one from above was chained below within the mind of another.
His thought process was cut short when he sensed the darkness of his brother Nero near by. He opened his eyes as he leaned his weight on one knee. “What is it, Nero?”
Nero bowed to his elder brother.“Weiss..it appears that Rosso and Azul have found their way out of DeepGround and through the ruins of the ShinRa building.”
Weiss arches a brow. “Is that so? It seems that their actions may be in our favor then. I have been meaning to send our fellow DeepGround soldiers above but have had yet to figure out how..” he smirks down to his brother.“See that they are commended for their efforts..”
Nero looks up to his brother with a curious glance before giving him a nod. The look in his eyes said it all. He wanted to give Rosso and Azul a challenge when they reached the surface. “Consider it done, brother.”
He raises from the ground and turns to open another portal of darkness when he hears his brother’s voice call behind him. “And Nero..bring them here when you are finished with them.” he utters with a dark laugh.
——
Rosso uses her shock waves to cut through a double set of stairs that fell in front of a doorway. She looks ahead to see the ruins of the ShinRa building and gives a sigh while gazing upward. Her steps slow as she inches closer with an awed sigh. “Would you look at that Azul? Stars above in the heavens..”
Azul tosses the broken door that stood in his way to the side as he took a place beside Rosso. “Hmn..not exactly what they seemed like in the clips we were shown, are they Rosso?”
She loosely places one of her clawed hands over her shoulder while keeping her gaze upward. “No..not really. Then again..we gaze at the heavens through the ruins of ShinRa. Ironic, don’t you think?” she asks with a slight smirk.
A grin played over his lips as he gave a nod.“Ironic indeed..but not as much as our freedom is.” he says as he glances towards the side of the room where several DeepGround Elite stood and aimed their weapons at both Rosso and Azul.
Rosso looked around the room and smirked to see that they were surrounded. “Hmn..it seems that Weiss has left us a parting gift."she chimed, aiming her dual gunblade at those that were closest to her.
With a moment’s glance at one another, both Azul and Rosso charge at the soldiers that aimed to kill them. Rosso used several of her shockwaves to catch them off balance before dicing them into pieces. Azul tosses them about, making the ranks topple over each other with little effort. Within moments all of the soldiers are in a pile at either end of the room.
Rosso shakes her head with a playful pout. "What a shame..and I was just getting warmed up..”
Azul cracked his neck as he tuned to Rosso. “Child’s play.”
Within seconds a dark portal appears with Nero glancing at both of them with expressionless crimson orbs. “Weiss demands you both to see him. ”
Rosso gave a sigh as she looked at Nero. She knew that she was no match for Weiss, hence why he gained the title of ‘The White Emperor’ in DeepGround. With the Restrictors no longer in power, it seemed that Weiss took up the position of leader. Not that she minded, but she was so hoping to be free of the prison known as DeepGround with him in power.
Reluctantly, she gave a nod to Nero and turned to Azul, who was already on his way back to DeepGround. Nero returned to his darkness, leaving Rosso alone for a moment in the ruins. Rosso looked up at the stary night sky with a burning desire to remain above.
“Until we meet again,my love…” she whispers with a yearning glance upward, blowing the sky a kiss before heading back into DeepGround. She would return to the surface one day. That was a vow she would live up to, even if it killed her in the end.
