If there is anything I've learned from the last year or so is that we should not let go of the pieces of us that make us who we are, just to be what someone else wants us to be. When it comes to being true to oneself there should be no compromise, no settling of such. But instead to live in the truth of who we are at all times, even if it's uncomfortable for others. Because knowing who you are, will help you to not acquiesce to things you don't want period.
