A John Shen x Emma Nolan fic

He grabs another controller from one of the drawers of the coffee table and turns it on, queuing up a new round of the fighting game he’s playing so they can both play. “Do you know how to play, or do you need me to teach you?”

“I think the three brothers thing answers that question, doesn’t it?” She gives him a serious look that means game on as she settles into the couch, poised for battle. “Let’s do this, I wanna kick your ass again.”

“I shudder to think of what you were like on the playground, Nolan,” Shen jokes as he scrolls through the character menu.

“I was a delight, thank you very much,” she replies with a pleased grin. “Everyone adored me.”

“I’m sure they did, when they were on your team instead of against it,” he laughs, nodding at the screen, “now pick your character so I can redeem myself.”

Summary: Emma asks John to show her how he unwinds after a long shift.

@emiliesth asked me Top 5 favorite crackships. I’ve got a few but I’m afraid they aren’t very cracky. Maybe somewhere between rarepairs and crack? But here we go...

5. Artelliott (Artie & Elliott) - I really don’t have an excuse for this except Artie is a short film director and all of Elliott’s numbers are like a fucking music video. Imagine what they could do if they teamed up?? Also Artie is bi idc what anyone says

4. Artshine (Artie & Sunshine) - Okay so this basically comes from that one scene in Night of Neglect where Sunshine asks if she can sing with them and she has some line about how it feels to be lost in a crowd and Artie has this look like “Oh I know that feeling”. And that’s basically it lol. But c’mon they’d just be really cute together

3. Sugar Rose (Sugar & Marley) - So if Sugar was like. Actually a character in s4, she could’ve bonded with Marley. Marley comes to her with her guy troubles and Sugar is like “Oh I remember having guys fighting over me. It was great” and Marley’s like ???no?? Also Sugar likes taking Marley shopping and spending money on her and Marley helps Sugar with her singing and is the patient and nice teacher that she needs and so they bond over all of that. And again, they’d be cute. And like total opposite personalities, too 

2. Farley (Finn & Marley) - I mean if Puck can date Kitty... (which was weird but I digress) Anyway who doesn’t love a teacher student relationship that’s not 100% disgusting bc Finn is only like a couple years older?? Finn starts to fall for Marley bc she reminds him of Rachel, but then realizes he likes her for all the ways she isn’t like Rachel. Not to mention she’s the one to talk some sense into him and set him on the path of becoming an actual teacher. And she’s the one by his side when they don’t think the rest of the club is coming back. Idk man they’re just cute 

1. Shemma (Shannon & Emma) - I said this before but yeah. I stand by it. Beiste supported Emma more than Will ever did lol. Emma needs someone that loves and appreciates her. Plus they’re like total yin and yang. Beiste is big and tough and sporty and Emma is small and sweet and feminine. They’re the perfect jock/prep couple. Plus they were both still virgins at the same time so they could explore those uncharted waters together, with no judgement and no fucking obnoxious prude jokes (:

Defying Gravity || Shemma

After sending her reply to Shay, Emma returns to her broom kit resting beside her on the ground. It's a blessing that the pitch isn't being used for a team practice at the moment or else she'd be sorely disappointed. With her legs crossed, broom in her lap, the girl feels comfortable on the ground of the pitch, surrounded by the high-rise spectator seats. It's peaceful and she could just sit there for hours. Nevertheless, she has a bit of tending to do with her broom. Emma feels guilty for the length of time that's passed since she last held her broom and kicked herself into the air. It should never be this long and the girl vows to make a point to fly every other week, at the very least.

Taking the cloth, Emma begins to polish her handle. She'd already examined the bristles for any breaks or split ends but she won't know for certain if that needs looking to until she's had a few minutes in the air. Polishing is relaxing and as the Slytherin waits for her companion to show up, she becomes transfixed by her repetitive strokes along the handle.

Brewing Spring Break || Shemma

Emma jots down another note as her barn owl Syrin returns with Shay's latest reply. After glancing to see that he was on his way, Emma sets the parchment aside to give her full attention back to the experimental potion she's working on. Given the work she's been dabbling in lately around pregnancy, she was trying to use all certified-safe ingredients to create an anti-nausea portion and a calming draught that any expecting mother could take to take some of the edge off some of the more difficult days. Though she had started this just after arriving--a continuation of a project she'd assisted on while abroad--it took on new meaning now that she's helping care for Marlene McKinnon and her unborn child.

But currently the potion is looking more uncertain as she stirs and waits. The tempus she cast shows that she has ten more minutes of observation before she has to flash-heat the cauldron and place the last ingredient and finish with the appropriate spell. Wafting the brew she breathes in the smell that is now more earthy than before and notes it. Entirely engrossed in her work, Emma brushes stray strands of hair that have escape her hair tie, completely unaware when Shay enters.
