FIVE NPC’S YOU SAY? YOU BETCHA. npc inbox meme!
ARCHER “ARCHIE” BRENNAN, BEST FRIEND & LEAD SINGER OF TARMAC.
archie and shep met sometime when they were sixteen. they lived down the street from each other in base housing — camp lejeune, jacksonville, north carolina. they were both skaters, both loved going to shows, so it only made sense for them to attach each other to the hip. they decided, early on, as soon as they could, they would take to the road, find a place to settle roots, and start a band — so they did. they turned nineteen, immediately moved to dayton, ohio, where they met the rest of their band. archie genuinely is shep’s closest friend — they’ve been there for each other through thick & thin. charismatic frontman who loves what he does — literally wakes up everyday and thanks god for his life. incredibly kind, incredibly social, genuinely the chillest dude you might ever meet. his first exposure to hardcore, punk, etc, was when he was, like, 15, and some dude at a skatepark playing music out of a shitty speaker, and since then, his life has been changed. lionel boyce.
BECKY “BEX” BENNETT, TARMAC’S BASSIST.
archie and shep met becky as soon as they moved to dayton. she’d been promoting and booking shows throughout the scene — mostly post-hardcore and screamo. they made instant friends with her. through her, archie and shep’s first band — HURTLOCKER — would garner a small following by her constant booking. later, after expressing interest in playing music again, archie jumped at the opportunity and had her sit in for a couple of jam sessions. turns out, she’s really fucking killer at bass. the more sensible and logistic one out of the band, always on schedule, always making sure everyone is at the top of their game, and keeping everyone in check. devery jacobs.
JESS MERCER, TARMAC’S LEAD GUITARIST.
jess already had a bit of a following when she moved back to her hometown. she’d made waves in a few riot grrrl and beatdown bands, she toured with a regionally famous post-hardcore band and played pretty big venues while standing in. everyone knew her to write some of the coolest fuckin’ riffs, the ones that would get people immediately cracking open the room with thrown elbows and bloody noses. bex mentioned that her new project was looking for a guitarist, and after pleading and begging, she finally showed up to a practice session, blasted out some poison the well, and she never left. probably the driest one out of the group, typically low energy, a bit standoffish, but my god can she make two 40oz’s disappear in record time. melissa barrera.
CAMERON MERCER, TARMAC’S RHYTHM GUITARIST.
cameron is jess’ younger brother — and the total baby of the band. five years her junior, he has always possessed big “mom said you can’t go unless you take me with you” energy … and he never grew out of it. cameron learned everything he knows from jess — how to play guitar, good music, all of it. for being the youngest, he might be the most mature, but also, the most whimsical. xolo mariduena.
CASSIUS “CASH” KENNEDY, DAD (:
cash is a complicated man, for sure, but he’s always been supportive, loving, though pretty gruff in the way marine dads are. he doesn’t say “I love you, I miss you, I worry for you,” he calls every day and asks “did you eat? Make sure to change your oil!” and, if he’s visiting, he’ll check the house, fix any leaks, et cetera. When Shep called him saying “we just sold out red rocks,” he just nodded and said “that’s pretty good kid, proud of you” and was there, sidestage, recording everything from his ipad. he enlisted at 18, fresh out of high school, met his wife elodie at 20, and had shepherd when he was 24. everyone knew cash, everyone had a good story about him, and everyone was equally terrified of him — he was a hardass, but he made sure his recruits earned respect. he took care of them, but didn’t let ‘em off easy. “master sergeant kennedy wants to see you …” “...cash?” “yup.” “fuck.” shep remains close to cash, and often pays for his parents’ flights and hotel stays to make sure they’re with him at every award ceremony, every big show, every possible thing. holt mccallany.
one thing ... i think ... about shep is that instead of going down the whole "i have to keep moving and making new friends so i don't talk to anyone and i withdraw because i lose everything" trap, he's more like "I HAVE TO KEEP MOVING SO I GET TO MAKE NEW FRIENDS AND MEET MORE PEOPLE AND EXPLORE!!" and i love him for that. he's literally made for the road, so once he's touring, he's totally comfortable and is mentally prepared. i think he is so used to moving, though, that he always has that feeling that he might have to get up and go any moment.
he's so friendly, he surrounds himself with people, he's incredibly extroverted, he loves to meet people, but he struggles so much with building a romantic relationship because he wants to be present. and that means building a future, settling down, and he doesn't want to put someone through the constant moving and leaving so he just has a really big stupid hound dog that he treats like a child instead. "i'm actually married to the band, the dog is our child."
he'll let any of his friends crash on his couch, he's lived in apartments with ten people, he'll remember your birthday, if you met him ten years ago he'll remember your dog's name. he's probably the coolest, most kind guy you'll meet, but when it comes to building a long term romantic relationship he's already sprinting towards an exit and feeling like he's being hunted for sport. if he kisses someone he'll throw up and panic too. but he's a nice guy and will 100% pick you up from the airport.
