I respect many of those who worked on it. I don't think the writers are irredeemably evil but unknowingly channeled some bad parts of themselves when digging deep into trauma for inspiration...

But I will go to the grave saying The She-Ra Netflix show was bad because of how it handled domestic abuse and suicide with Kyle and Angella (showing Kyle almost killing himself to make his abusers realize they'd miss him, having Angella's sacrifice phrased as penance for her normal emotions and thus more suicide encouraging than heartwarming ), and its dismissiveness of the slaughter of poc people based on Indian culture (turning that slaughter into a punchline of the princess crying in the bath tub while eating ice cream and mourning her killed subjects)

I don't fucking care about the usual complaints "CAtra's too mean to deserve happiness!" or "villains can't be allowed reform"

This is what I saw. And I can honestly say at my lowest point the show accidentally repeatedly proving that Shadow Weaver is right and non-special people don't truly matter did NOT help when I turned to my favorite show while struggling with mental health.

I noticed a lot of my complaints about She-Ra reboot identical to superhero comics about male characters.

Don't know what to think about that exactly, but it does mean I"m not falling into trap of holding women characters to higer standard

(Admittably its about "heroic" characters like Iron Man and Batman being forgiven by victims for their bullshit, rather than villainous ones who have a clearly telegraphed face turn. But much of problems with story beats are similar) I don't really care if a character is punished for their crimes (unless they are like members of a law enforcement organization, the Thin blue line is depressing enough in real life), but their victims acting as if they just forgot them pisses me off.

I actually wrote fix-fic of Catra as a space pirate , because I wanted her to get better but I didn't want others characters written out of character just to let her be with Adora.

How was the Netflix She-Ra show against femininity?

Well not consciously against it, but some real "not like the other girls" energy in a lot of how characters bounced off eachother

The more conventionally girly a character, the more they were comic relief and their grief treated as less serious and deserving of empathy than other characters.

See: Mermista going through an ice cream binge over a large number of her citizens being killed or conquered [ which is when the entire show fell apart for me really]

Like almost all of us, the writers had clear hangups about gender because our society sucks

The show honestly had a very 90s feel to it sometimes, in a bad way

You know what? The people who disliked fandomWillow/Hunter because of amatonormativity and rushed storytelling are valid, even if I enjoyed it (but am glad canon left it to a timeskip cause Hunter honestly needs a few years to figure things out.)

But who were those treating Gus as their child and how can I avoid them?)

Lord knows She-Ra talking up friendship but putting romance on a pedestal made me hate every ship I previously loved, especially by pairing people who harmed the other’s best friends gravely and never having that addressed. And I’m talking about ableist good guys as well there

The She-Ra reboot needed more people actually interested in writing about princesses and friendship. Instead we get a terrible shallow take on friendship with Entrapta’s storyline [that was awful and ableist] because what they really wanted to write about was only abuse and romance and the princesses are only there to get past the pitch stage with executives then languish and feel like they fit into the setting less than the freaking evil empire founded by an alien

Mob Psycho 100 really helped me when I was in a bad place

Its sad that Mob Psycho 100 , for all its faults of writer, has a better message of compassion than most kids shows nowadays.

After She-Ra reboot unintentionally all but stated people with my mental issues, or people that are unremarkable have to earn the right to be treated with decency when I was struggling with situational depression it was a huge light in the darkness. 

In contrast, most LGBT+ creators I expected better from I was harshly reminded are geeks and have much of the toxicity of geek subcultures infecting their writing, along with possibly some understandable misanthropy.

The idea that male abuse victims in fiction are only taken seriously and their suffering and fear not comic relief if they are brooding bad boys needs to stop.

The fact that She-Ra manage to make me hostile to nearly EVERY freaking ship I had on the show in the past is...something.

And nearly all of these is because they have someone shacking up with someone who grievously harmed their best friends.

...Like relationships aren’t a simple group of two way streets, never influencing others. If you’re in a relationship with someone who’s awful to your best friend or killed their mother that’s bad.

...and yeah I said it, Perfuma is an ableist a-hole to Entrapta. So I’m “anti” Scorpfuma at least if you choose to acknowledge season 4.

So the end result is putting romantic relationships on a platform over all other relationships.
