The last place he wanted to be was back in Hawkins. The place where he had been forced to move, had gotten arrested, released, and finally had escaped. Now he was back after his old man had phoned, said that Susan had finally left him. That he was sick. Everything inside Billy had told him that he didn’t want to be here, that Neil didn’t deserve absolution now that he might be dying. He had told Lydia to stay home and he would call her if something happened. Another last was running into his first ex-girlfriend in Hawkins, Vicky.
He shifted on his feet for a couple of moments before making the decision to say hello. They hadn’t hated each other, it wasn’t that. ❝ Hey, wow you look like you haven’t aged a bit . . . I can’t say the same here. How are you doing ? ❞ She really did look good. Billy hoped she was happy now, but he couldn’t tell for sure - who could be happy still living in Hawkins, Indiana? It made him think of Tommy and Carol and where they were. He hadn’t spoken to either of them in so long.
