It had been a perfect day, for once. Dominique had taken her to a carnival, which Sam had never seen before. The ex-thief had eaten more than she should have and gone on every single ride at least twice, and now they were standing at the gates, just as the sun was setting, and everything was bathed in a beautiful golden light.
It had been snowing earlier. There were snow drifts piled against the gates, and scattered flakes still fell from the sky, lightly dusting everything in powdery white. Sam looked up at Dominique, and her breath caught in her throat.
She stood up on her tiptoes and pressed a soft kiss to her girlfriend’s lips, her arms snaking around the taller woman’s waist.
“Thank you,” whispered Sam, with a silly grin on her face.
