Sebastian checkedwhat was on the TV and sat down next to him on the couch. Kimi knew he wasn’tvery interested in the hockey, but Seb lay down and put his head in Kimi’s lapand out of habit Kimi started touching his hair.
“We alwaysend up the same,” Sebastian said thoughtfully after a little while. He hadtaken Kimi’s hand and placed it on his own chest, stroking from one knuckle upto the wrist, down to the next knuckle and back up again. Kimi looked down athim.
“It’s verynice,” Seb added quickly, “but it’s… funny, you know, how we always…without saying anything.”
“Do youwant to talk more?” Kimi didn’t like to acknowledge how much of a worry that actuallywas to him. He just wasn’t a very chatty guy; he loved listening to Seb talk though. Seb stopped stroking his hand, thinking for a second.
“I likethat we don’t have to,” he finally said. Kimi looked at him for a minute butSebastian was apparently done talking, so he turned back to the hockey.
“It wasdifferent, before we…” he looked for the right words. “Before we figuredeverything out.” Kimi didn’t say anything, but gave Sebastian’s hand a littlesqueeze.
“After…you know. In Bahrain.” His cheeks colored and he looked away. Kimi smiled. Ofcourse he knew. His first podium after he came back, Seb on the top step,overjoyed and spraying way less champagne than he was drinking. He’d grown up alot and Kimi had missed him. He was happy for the excuse to drink together, toparty together… to both be able to blame the alcohol for a shared kiss in theearly hours of morning.
“I wasworried,” Seb said, bringing Kimi out of his memory of a younger Seb with redcheeks, looking nervous but holding on to Kimi’s shoulders and looking up athim through his eyelashes.
“Worried?”
“You didn’tcall or text or… say anything. I thought that maybe you didn’t…”
“I’m bad atcalling,” Kimi said, stroking Seb’s cheek.
“I’m bad attexting first, so I always end up hoping you will.” Seb tried to look awayagain, embarrassed, but Kimi held him a little firmer.
“We talkedabout it as soon as we could,” he said. He didn’t want to admit that he’d beenworried too, worried it had been a mistake, and rather than put his foot in itwith a clumsy text he wanted to talk face to face. “And everything was fine.Better than fine.”
Seb nodded.They had talked before the next race, nervous and awkward but completelyhonest, and that’s how it had stayed since then. They texted all the time; everydaythings, well-wishes, what to have for dinner… when it came to the seriousstuff however, they were both as bad as each other. Most of their first timetogether passed without any electronic communication at all.
“I liketalking in person better than texting,” Sebastian said after being quiet for a littlewhile. Kimi had felt him slowly relaxing back into the couch. He didn’tparticularly like talking about serious things at all and it made himuncomfortable and tense.
“Me too,”Kimi agreed.
“You can’ttext this,” Seb said, sitting up and moving over to kiss him on the cheek.Kimi smiled.
“You cansend a…” Kimi made an exaggerated kissy-face and Sebastian burst outlaughing.
XD XD And he had to stand RIGHT THERE while Jenson (the ex, in your twisted horrible world :P) was patting Seb being all friendly after quali, and now the stuff with Mark is all over the tv and social media... he’s having a hell of a time. XD I’m gonna have to work all that into the story, lol. XD

He can deal with the press making the same stupid questions over and over. He can deal with the comments about being second to Seb in the team. He can deal with all that. He doesn’t mind coming second, or third, as long as Seb is in Ferrari with him. He said so in Singapore. Why can’t people can remember that? For a moment, he wishes he could tell them that what really bothers him, what he cannot deal with is Sebastian’s stupid crush on his former teammate. He cannot deal with the smiles, and the touching, and the fooling around, or the fucking hugs in the podium when he’s not up there to stop it. He cannot deal with Seb’s guilty looks after that, or after sharing a chat with Mark in the paddock. It really pisses him off. It was better when they couldn’t stand each other. Fucking Mark. Oh, he may keep Seb at arm’s length but when he meets Kimi’s stare as they cross paths during race weekends, Mark knows, he fucking know’s what he’s doing, subtly leading Sebastian on, daring Kimi to make his move. It’s been escalating ever since they became teammates and it’s driving him up the wall… “Shame I don’t have you as a teammate anymore”. Oh, that one fucking hurt. And he really wants to pretend that it doesn’t matter. He tries to convince himself that it means nothing. And it works… For a couple of months, it works. Until he finds himself tripping over nothing as his eyes zero in on Seb. Sharing a handshake that last longer than necessary. Speaking animatedly. Smiling and gesturing widely. Being his usual touchy-feely self. To Mark. Fucking Mark.
