‘‘Okay, what’s up?’‘ Evie had been giving him this distant demeanor for the last couple of days, and he no longer felt the need or desire to give her the space to tell him whatever was bothering her. ‘‘Why are you upset with me?’‘ he doesn’t remember doing anything to upset her. And as if Mal and Evie’s drama wasn’t bad enough already, he now felt as if they were both expecting him to get himself involved in it. He didn’t plan to get in the middle of it. He loves Mal, he’s been together with her in secret because the public eye was still cast on her after her break up with Ben, and he knows she needs this to stay quiet for now. And who was he to deny her that? he knows others finding out might lead to Mal being hurt, and that’s the last thing he wants. He wasn’t comfortable keeping it from Evie and Carlos, felt as if he was lying to them.. betraying them, but if he didn’t he’d betray Mal. And they were planning to tell them soon, they’re always going to be the first ones to find out before anyone else. He and Mal agreed on that, even if she and Evie still has her tensions. Tensions he wasn’t sure how to fix, or if they could even be fixed. But Evie’s kind-hearted nature, giving everyone a chance.. he knew she can forgive Mal. And Mal can put her pride aside once that happens. It just.. wasn’t happening very quickly.
