Totally just saw you reblog that high fantasy post referencing Sanderson (like me!) and you instantly got a new follower!
Always glad to meet another cosmere fan :)
Read the tweet from Bree Newsome in the middle of that photoset. The purpose for highway shutdowns is because it forces the media to pay attention and spread word of the cause. People are inconvenienced, yes, but there is a much bigger picture here than just that.
I saw, I just disagree. Block public officials from getting into city hall/courthouses/police stations/etc, and I guarantee you that there will be a similar response. Bonus points if they are officials that are somehow tied to the movement in a negative way.Removes the danger of protesters getting hit by cars.Removes the danger to everyone stuck on the highway and beyond - it’s dishonest to just say that it’s an ‘inconvenience’. Best case scenario is an inconvenience - mid to worse cases could lose people their jobs or get others killed.Removes negative coverage and standing of a movement in the eyes of people not already protesting. Protests like this operate on the idea that ‘there’s no such thing as bad publicity’, but that’s really not true.
I don’t deny that this is the EASIEST way to get news cameras on you, but I really don’t think that it outweighs all the negatives. There are better ways to spread a message.
I DIDNT KNOW YOU WERE THERE FOR THAT PANEL, IM SO EMBARRASSED AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Yeah, I was dressed as Jake English. I had a gasmask and everything. I actually remember walking up to you after the panel and complimenting your Sick Rap Skills, now that I think about it.
You're in organic chemistry? Hell yeah chemistry buddies! (Chemical engineering, but it's not THAT different after all)
Yeah. My degree is TECHNICALLY in Materials Science and Engineering, but I focused mostly on polymeric materials and organic chemistry. /highfive!
Here I come, rougher than Ryoukles / The best of them, tougher than Ryoukles / You can call me Ryoukles, unlike Knuckles I don't chuckle / I'd rather flex my knuckles
Yes.
I was thinking of springs for a two part folding, and hinges for front to back flapping, up and down seems a bit too hard. Hoping to finish them for Katsu, so if you're going you can see them yourself? :D *R
That could work too!
No, not gonna be at Katsucon sadly. Anastasia and I just drove down there for MAGfest and, though it was a lot of fun, it's a LONG trip for us. Not something we'll be doing very frequently.
Well actually I was going to build some moving Davesprite wings and was wondering about any tips for mechanics or such? *R
Oh gosh, that's WAY beyond my ken lol. I don't think I know anyone who's done a Davesprite with moving wings either (or ANY cosplay with moving wings). There are some wing tutorials out there (though I don't have any off the top of my head) that can help with feathering and making them look awesome. You could probably make them move with some really light hydraulics or air pumps, but those would be expensive. Perhaps some sort of small pulley in the joint? It depends if you want it to flap from where it attaches to your shoulders, or if you want a joint in the wing that flaps as well. The 2-joint thing is probably impossible without a LOT of money to throw at it.
I have no idea how to go about that, but I hope you're able to pull it off! That sounds really cool.
