Summary:

“I am led to believe you have been…happy,” Thor said carefully.

The vice that had clamped over Loki’s heart when he first saw Thor returned. He had been happy, ridiculously so when compared to his life a mere year earlier. He still did not know what to do with the threat that yet loomed in the depths of space, but the time he had spent with Mobius made for some of the happiest days in his life. Even with the irritatingly mundane office tasks he was forced to perform.

Six months after the Battle of New York, Thor arrives at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters to bring Loki home. Although the journey is easy, the reunions that follow are not. 

Today's fic is a missing scene from chapter 9 of A Desperate Play for Control, the Avengers AU born from @wolfpup026's incredible mind! What if Mobius had worked for SHIELD when Loki invaded? (Check out all the art here!) This probably won’t work well on its own unless you're just looking for angsty Loki + family feels. Loki glances around the Midgardian apartment they've rented, once again berating themself for committing so much time and effort to this ruse. They've even taken to acquiring furniture and art they like, replacing the drab, worn furnishings that had remained since the last tenant.

They have no reason to do this. They only use this apartment as a safe haven while they spy on the Midgardians. Their secret portal to Asgard is hidden in the hall closet behind a mop and vacuum.

All together, they likely only spend a few moments in these four small rooms week to week, yet --

A knock sounds at the door.

Loki glances in the mirror once more. Not a hair out of place, they walk to the door and throw it open. "You're late."

"Traffic, sorry." Mobius stands in the doorway, jacket draped over his arm, hand still holding his briefcase. His own apartment is right next door. He could have stopped there first, but he didn't. He tugs his tie loose and undoes the top buttons. "You look..." His gaze drags down Loki's body.

"Have I rendered you speechless?" Loki preens under the attention. Shirtless, their silk pajama bottoms are low on their hips.

"You're gorgeous," Mobius says, breathy. His hands have stilled on the buttons of his shirt and that won't do.

Loki is not a patient god.
