I hope this isn’t too personal. I’m asking out of genuine curiosity. I’m Arab, and being Muslim is ofc essentially compulsory where I grew up, (i’m faking for safety) so my frame of reference is pretty narrow. You’re the first Russian Muslim I’ve encountered, and I’m trying to understand the context. I’m not sure whether you live in Russia or abroad, whether you’re ethnically Russian, or whether one of your parents is from a background where Islam is more common. I’m interested in how Islam fits into Russian identity and family structure, since it’s not something I’ve been exposed to before.
