Wow, I lost a sock in the washing machine, but it was from the same pack as a sock I lost years ago, so now after all this time I have an even pair again. At least everything worked out!
Delta from Zero Escape: everything that happened up to this point was leading to this very moment. Think about all the decisions you ever made; which socks you’d wear every day, when to do the laundry, how big of a load to put in… you may think the washing machine eating up socks is out of your control, but all your choices created the possibility of this happening. Think about why you’re experiencing this timeline and not any other. You have subconsciously taken all the right actions to orchestrate a reunion for your socks.
Akane from Zero Escape: think about how many branching paths exist in the universe just from you washing your socks. It may seem lucky that you lost two of the same type, but consider every possible outcome. Let’s assume you lose one sock every cycle. If you own twenty distinct types of socks, the first loss will be one type of sock, and its match will be removed from the pool. This would decrease the probability of the same type of sock going missing next. Do you see now? Eventually you’re bound to lose two of the same type, but getting there could take any number of spins. There’s a timeline where you lose the same type of sock twice in a row. There’s a timeline where you lose one of every single type before doubling up. There’s one where you lose two in a pair at once and don’t even notice they’re gone, and one where you’ve never lost a sock in your life. Imagine what would happen if the version of you who lost more than half of their socks shifted into the timeline where you never lost any, and that version of yourself took the place of the first one.
Sigma from zero escape: what if there was actually just one pair of socks the entire time? The first sock that went missing was sent to the past to the sock factory where they were made, but got packaged as part of the second pair in the same pack. Then, the second sock went missing and was sent slightly further back in time to be part of the first pair.
