Adjutant Shiima (副官シーマ) played by Kana Fujieda and voiced for most of the series by Michiro Iida, has one of my favorite costume designs of ‘80s Sentai villainesses. Black and red just WORK for a villain and the interesting techno-belt as well as the sturdy jacket over the spandex undersuit works for her. However, the original character design is pretty cool as well. I love the two-tone hair of the male-ish version and the purple hair of the more feminine.
His makes sense given Shiima’s nature in the show. She was from a planet of people with incredible psychic powers, powers the evil Star League Gozma wanted. When her planet was subjugated by the Gozma, she was raised by an evil star beast that erased her memories and causing her to take on a deep, male voice more in keeping with her cold, ruthless manner.
Eventually, this mental programming is broken and she returns to who she was meant to be, regaining her feminine voice and joining up with the heroes against her former allies.
That original character art reminds me of something from Gundam though, the uniform being kind of Titans-esque or maybe more like the Crossbone Vanguard uniforms and the hairstyles definitely calling out to the anime styles of the time. I think the only real misstep in the costume is the boots. Sure, heels look cool and sexy but for a warrior and especially one taking on a more masculine aspect, they just don’t make sense. Combat-style boots, even in the same material, would have worked much better.
Man, I need to watch more Dengeki Sentai Changeman, stat. Love this show, love the designs, love the villains. Great stuff!
She's my beautiful best friend
