maybe i missed a metamano post amidst all the shiposts (shimano posts) but do u have a theory for why shimano was killed off in 1?

It's not like he has an irl actor face claim, i don't think? he's a great character visually + story-wise, it seems a waste. the one reason i could see (besides canon writing go brrrrr) is that he's a product of a period that's no longer around in later games, but even then it would be fun to see him adapt (or fail).

No, no, not metamano missed. I've never had a theory about why he was killed off. Like, any real theory at least. My thought is that, like, Yakuza 1 wasn't thought of to be a start of a franchise. It was, originally, a one-off. I think its popularity was a surprise, and that's why there really wasn't much continuation between Y1 and Y2. Sure Terada came back as a Secret Korean(TM) but come on, really? Like, great! Y'know? When there's precedent for success there's gonna be more chance of a sorta continous plot. But, since there wasn't with Y1, well, there wasn't. Sure, Y0 helped a lil', but you can't do much with "That guy who dies at the end of the sequel" because you wanna focus on Majima more. How he came to be. (Even if I feel that, even then, like, come on. You can do better than that! Why did they have to include Nishitani man!!!!!!!!!!!!) You get me? Like. The Yakuza series has never been the bastion of Look! Context! But I wish it was. That's what I appreciate in a story. A continuation, really. You're right. The period is gone. Like, literally. It's forgotten. Every game has the same problem. It's kinda just like. Yakuza 1+(X). I would've loved to see him in later games. Adapt, fail, or anything in between! Just something to provide fan fave majima with a bit more context other than He Kinda Mad Tho!
