Shinchū-神虫 Divine Insects hailing from a distant continent prowl the forested lands, not in search of humans, but disease spreading demons. Their imposing size coupled with powerful limbs and razor-like appendages and stingers make them an enemy of utter dread. When Fowl spirits and Yokai encounter Shinchu, they will be torn apart in a berserk fury, horribly mangled and crushing the unholy beings into a unrecognizable paste. In this zealous fervor they can be lost for days at a time maiming and eradicating thousands upon thousands of demons. These miraculous beings play a key role in protecting humans reach enlightenment through meditative practices, Should any malicious entity try to interfere with their burgeoning spiritualty, will incur a most holy wrath from these empyrean beings.

Shinchū are holy insects. While they have a ferocious appearance, shinchū do not attack humans. Instead, they feed on demons and evil spirits. In particular, they prey upon yōkai which cause disease and spread epidemics. They rip their victims apart violently as they feed, leaving pools of blood and body parts in their wake. Their appetites are as big as the shinchū themselves. Every morning, a shinchū will consume three thousand demons, and every evening it will devour three thousand more.

Silkworm moths are considered holy creatures, and the term shinchū has been used as a poetic name for these insects since ancient times. They were held as miraculous creatures, due to their both their physical transformation from worms into moths, and for the precious silk which they produced.

Day 7 of #mabsdrawlloweenclub is #YOKAI and I have chosen #Shinchū. Here’s a description from Yōkai.com: Shinchū are great insect gods which resemble silkworm moths larger than elephants. The have saucer-like eyes, a gaping mouth full of sharp teeth, eight legs, enormous wings, and a long stinger protruding from the rear of their segmented abdomen. Shinchū are holy insects. While they have a ferocious appearance, shinchū do not attack humans. Instead, they feed on demons and evil spirits. In particular, they prey upon yōkai which cause disease and spread epidemics.
