While there are plenty of cheap eats in Tokyo (ramen for ~$5-8, Pastries for ~$2), fresh fruit is expensive . Yet they are among the most beautiful fruit you'll ever see, meticulously packaged and vibrant in color, from ~$80 gigantic mangoes to ~$130 perfectly round honeydew 🍈 melons . Specially bred white strawberries 🍓 are among the most visually appealing and we were determined to try, even at $1-3 per strawberry . I like ramen, but love a few other noodle varieties more (try sharing that) . For me, ramen is the bacon cheeseburger of the noodle world -- a caloric and sodium flavor bomb meant to flood your taste buds and stomach, but not meant for daily consumption . Tsukemen or dipping ramen is almost a wonderful exception because you control how much flavor goes into each bite with how much you dip the cold noodles . Fu-unji specializes in tsukemen and was one of my top spots to visit . The long queue of Japanese businessmen packing the seats and lining the walls assured me I had reached the right place . The noodles were perfectly al dente and the special dipping broth breathtaking . Even in moderation, the creamy egg and savory salty broth was almost overwhelming .
