I've been seeing a lot of really cool, really cute self-inserts/sonas lately, which made me wanna embrace the cringe and make my own, just for fun. So now Kotori exists !!
Her first name, Kotori 小鳥, means 'small bird' because Bird. And her last name, Kimura 記村, means 'record/chronicle village' because obligatory fanfiction joke
The Kimura was once a Wind country shinobi clan with a bird themed kekkei genkai. Generations back, the clan was involved with the dog pound mess alongside the Hatake, Inuzuka, Orochi and Hoshigaki. Only a few of them were caught up by the hunters, but it was enough to send the clan on a downward spiral similar to the Hatake. In modern day, they're practically non-existent— and the few who remain ended up migrating to Konoha, which is how Kotori came to be.
Kotori is only half Kimura, and so her kekkei genkai is much weaker than what it could have been (essentially just being the decorative wings on her head and an ability to turn her neck around like an owl) She likes to jokingly call it "the world's most useless bloodline limit."
I wanted Kotori to have appropriate inoffensive background character vibes, and I feel like Kotetsu and Izumo match that kind of energy so I slapped her onto a team with them. Tsume is their sensei bc I love Tsume and I think it makes sense that Kotori would be placed on a team with a teacher who has an animal-themed bloodline limit of her own. Yippie team Tsume !!
(Tsume is very disappointed in her unambitious students)
Kotori is some sort of desk shinobi, but I'm undecided on what she does specifically— possibly something T&I related tho, or like whatever the Konoha bingo book department is. She handles a lot of files and sensitive paperwork, and has gotten in the habit of taking notes on everything she does.
Her hobbies include making color-coded lists she rarely manages to actually finish before getting distracted, reading icha-icha she's re-packaged to disguise it as another book so she can read it in public without looking like a freak (unlike SOME people), and researching and recording clan histories and lore— particularly any under threat of being lost or forgotten. She'd like to be a jonin only to be able to have her own genin team, as she likes kids and thinks having a team sounds fun, but her skills aren't quite up to par and also that sounds like a lot of work she doesn't wanna do.
Anyways !!
Thank you @masasiblingnaruto, @sleepyofurbullshit and @rayna19125141 for giving me your own very cute shinobisonas to draw with mine
