Newsletter on homeward bound ship
Seventy-two years ago today, Lawrence Layden embarked for home on the SS Bardstown Victory on September 26, 1945, and arrived in New York on October 6th. This onboard newsletter, the "Sea Bag," thanks Capt. Layden for "giving his afternoons in the interest of Personal Affairs" during the voyage home.
From the Lawrence Layden Scrapbook, 1941-1945 held at the College of Charleston Libraries.
ADS Curiosity R-01 - Farseer Expedition Log 1
As planned, we journeyed out to Maia. We didn’t find any signs of alien activity, but we did find one singular meta-alloy for sale. It was probably the most expensive single commodity I’ve ever seen, but I bought it. I had heard of a Frame Shift Drive engineer by the name of Felicity Farseer out in the Deciat system who needed a meta-alloy for her research, We swiftly returned from Maia to deliver it to her.
In return, she boosted the Curiosity’s FSD, increasing our range from 25 to 35 light years. She claims to be able to do better with more exploration data, so I’m currently debating launching a “Farseer Expedition” to gather enough data to gain access to her level-5 upgrades. As I have over 65 million credits in the bank, we’re currently designing a build for a larger, multicrew exploration vessel - ADS Cape Canaveral - that could really use some bleeding-edge FSD technology.
