Ship tomato is derived from kink tomato, an Old fandom slang term meaning "your kink is not my kink, and that's okay" abbreviated as ykinmkato... which is hard to remember, so people just said kink tomato.

Basically, I only very rarely do CodyWan, don't really ship it, but I don't think anyone is wrong for shipping it (unless they give people hate for other power dynamic or age diff ships, but that's about hypocrisy, not the ship itself). Another way to think about it is like the ship equivalent of "I don't even go here," where it's not a ship you engage with but you don't have anything against it, inherently, it's just not your taste.

For me, with this specific ship, that means "I'll reblog it and occasionally read fic, but it has to be on my own terms, and I really dislike having it prompted for ask memes or brought up on my posts unless I'm the one bringing it up in the first place."

(I'm pretty much the only person who uses this term afaik, but if I mention it without explaining it's usually because the person suggesting it has been following me for long enough to know better.)

You might have answered this before, but I notice you use the tag ship tomato on some of your posts, and I was wondering what it meant

LMAO yeah, I've answered this before; it's the top link on my 'general' non-fandom master post.

While the term is based on 'kink tomato', the meaning is more in line with 'I don't even go here.'

Basically, "this isn't my ship, but I will reblog art of it if I think it's cute. That said, it's really popular and people will think that I do ship it just because I reblog it*, and while I hold no moral judgement of those who do ship it, please do not ask me to write anything for it."

Right now I mostly apply this to Ob*kin and Cod*Wan. If I engage with these ships, it's only on my own terms/of my own volition. I respect it, I occasionally enjoy the art, but Please do not ask me to write for it.

* or, admittedly, in one case, because I have written it before, just not for a long time.

I take a chance at reading a lot of fics I'm not certain to enjoy. A lot of it is omegaverse that focuses in on, you know, various aspects RotS and the Skywalker's conception/birth.

(A lot of it is also Obikin, because I'm not squicked by it (in certain circumstances), and lbr they make up the bulk of the prequels tag. If I'm prioritizing a trope/plot structure over ship, then a solid half of what crops up is going to be Obikin.)

And people rarely, if ever, let Anakin be both pregnant and evil. If he's pregnant, then it saves him, or Obi-Wan is the Sith (and his baby daddy), or he gives birth before he goes evil, or his Fall coincides with a miscarriage, or it's more Obikin but now Obi-Wan is pregnant and Anakin's off being Vader, or--

Or anything but "Darth Vader is very pregnant and still trying to kill you," basically.

Though I'll admit that @nevertheless-moving has a fun Sith!Padme AU that hits a few fun buttons in that regard. Anakin's just crying and holding his babies in confusion as Padme and Obi-Wan try to kill each other, it's dramatic enough for a stained glass window, it's great.

I was confused by your ship tomato tag and so went into it for an explain, I found it but the point is there is a VERY curse veggie tales/Starwars cross over of obikin where Obiwan is a tomato and Anakin is a cucumber. (It was designed to be cursed). I don’t think you should change that tag, just be aware of the psyche damage you deal out with tomato obikin. I think it all works here 👍 good job

(Only asking cuz you're the first person I've seen use it (gonna feel SO weird if it IS common and I'm just oblivious, considering how long I've been in fandom ngl). All Google gave was LITERALLY how to food-safe ship tomatoes, and a tumblr search was incomprehensible. A brief look at how you recently used the tag led to ships that are often debated. So, yeah.) It's not common! I've talked about it before (though I can't find the post?), but as far as I know, I'm the only one who uses it. It is, in fact, derived from "kink tomato" slang, and I came up with it to deal with an issue I was having, where I wanted to reblog fanart that I liked, without implying I was into the ship on its own (so people wouldn’t bring it up for ask memes) without accidentally insulting the artist.

Basically, "Ship Tomato" for me is a ship that I don't necessarily mind seeing, but that I don't want anybody asking me to write or rec. For example, I'm not really squicked out by Ob*kin, but it's not my ship and I won't write it if someone asks, and I'd prefer not to get headcanons relating to that ship in my ask box. That said, if it comes up on my dash or if it's happening in a fic I'm reading on AO3, I don't mind it! I don't have any great moral or emotional feelings about the ship, it's just not one of the ones I vibe with.

It's my middle point between "this is outright squicky" and "I actually want more of this," and I use the tag similarly to my "I don't even go here," just for ships instead of fandoms. I know from experience that getting "I don't even ship this" tags on your art or fic when it's reblogged just leaves a sour taste in the creator's mouth, because it's oftentimes a low-key moral judgement of the ship and feels like a backhanded compliment.

"Ship tomato" is so me-specific that I don't think anyone's liable to feel hurt if they see it, since it probably doesn't make sense to anyone who doesn't already follow me.

Unless you're writing on commission (which is, and I am required to say this, not legal) or for some other form of exchange/gift, in which case maybe stick to the original plan and have a friend look it over for accidental implications so you don't hurt the recipient.
