It certainly was one Great Ocean Road!
So many highlights over the last few days in the Melbourne area - surprised by the entertainment value of a doubles match, spotted our first koalas and wombats, enjoyed several great coffee and dining experiences (mmmm scallop pie at Apollo Bay Bakery), experienced some truly wild weather, walked an ever-increasing amount of steps throughout Melbourne CBD (central business district), but by far, the scenery on the Shipwreck Coast of the Great Ocean Road surpassed all of them. For those so inclined, you can actually walk 140+ km of it between Apollo Bay and Loch Ard Gorge. However on the 2.5 km paved portion that we completed, there were warnings about venomous snakes soooo maybe not. And the Southern Ocean water is as cold as ours is and numbed my feet. There’s no land between here and Antarctic so you need a wetsuit to go swimming.
Today is our last full day in Melbourne. And we are very fortunate to be off to the AO men’s quarter finals tonight between Rafa and Dom which helps ease the disappointment of Milos losing in 3 sets to Novak. (Note we’re on a first name basis with all the top players now.) Our AO tennis experience has been better than we could have imagined and I highly recommend for all tennis fans to take in a Grand Slam event at some point. My American neighbour on the plane who has seen Federer and Djokovic play more than 70 times and been to all the Majors, ranked the AO as the best, Roland Garros as the least.
Off to Perth tomorrow - this was a last minute addition to our itinerary because of our concern over poor air quality in Melbourne which, in hindsight, seems to have been exaggerated. There are some people wearing useless masks but maybe that’s also in response to the coronavirus. Wondering what adventures await us there - all the Aussies tell us Perth is beautiful.
Forgot to cover the damn viewfinder, so there’s all sorts of crazy flares going on, but I like the creamy seas anyway #lochardgorge #greatoceanroad #shipwreckcoast #victoria #australia #longexposure #nisifiltersau (at Loch Ard Gorge)
