Curling into the blankets that surrounded you, you reached for remote and pressed play. The familiar music began to play and you almost bounced. It was the first night you had free in months, and you'd tucked yourself away with the newest Harry Potter movie you hadn't yet seen, popcorn, and Oreos. Bucky had promised to join you once he finished the last of the paperwork from his most recent mission. Risking the cold air, you reached out of the blankets and opened the Oreos.
"James Buchanan Barnes. How dare you fuck with the Oreos," you screamed, spitting the cookie into your hand. You heard a chair fall and running feet before Bucky burst into the room, eyes wide with panic.
"I swear it was meant for Sam," he said quietly, ducking as you threw the package at his head.
"And?! I don't give a flying fuck's ass who it was meant for, I just ate an Oreo filled with /fucking toothpaste/," you growled. "You're sleeping on the couch tonight."
“You can’t banish me!” Bucky said, surprise evident in his voice. No matter how bad your fights had been, you always slept together. Tonight, unfortunately, wasn’t only about you. “This is my bed too!”
“Don't test me, Barnes,” you began cooly. Defeat flickered through his eyes. “You filled my Oreos with toothpaste. I can’t do whatever I want, and tonight, you’re sleeping on the couch.”
He didn’t argue, but stopped to press a kiss to your forehead before he left the room. “I love you, baby.”
The door closed and you collapsed back onto the bed, closing your eyes. You hadn’t wanted to send Bucky to the couch, but the Ultimate Prank War had already claimed enough innocent victims. Natasha’s red hair had been bleached when Sam messed with – he assumed – Bucky's special shampoo. Steve had spent nearly an hour hanging upside down in the gym when Bucky retaliated. When the night before had ended in tears and you and Natasha struggling to wash molasses from Wanda's hair, you had both agreed to do whatever it took to get your boyfriends to stop.
Thirty minutes later there was a soft knock on the door and you sighed in frustration, pausing the movie and standing up from bed. You walked the door, prepared to berate Bucky for his behavior again, and were met with flowers when you angrily opened the door. "I brought you Oreos," he said and you laughed quietly.
"Thank you," you said sincerely, taking the flowers and letting him into the room. "The flowers are a nice touch."
"Does this mean I can sleep in our bed tonight?" he asked, hope filling his eyes.
Fighting back a smile, you shook your head. "No, promising to stop the ridiculous pranks would. Everyone is tired of getting caught in the cross fire."
His eyes lit up with happiness and he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close and burying his head in your hair. "I would promise absolutely anything to sleep with you in my arms."
