Showtime’s documentary on prolific energizing combat sports broadcaster Mauro Ranallo, “Bipolar Rock ‘N’ Roller” chronicles Ranallo’s life long battle with mental illness. This is a must watch for anyone interested in trying to understand mental illness, anyone who is afflicted by mental illness or even just fans of combat sports. Ranallo has called so amazing fights from MMA to Boxing to Pro Wrestling and Ranallo does it with such a passion and aplomb that it surges through the screen and you’re even more invested in what you’re watching. Ranallo’s quirks and talents make somewhat of a polarizing figure some say Ranallo exaggerations and exuberance could come off as wacky, while others feel as though Ranallo adds to whatever Ranallo is calling. Ranallo is also know for a love of pop culture and hip hop, as Ranallo likes to add in references wherever a moment presents itself. This documentary is very revealing and very intimate. Thanks to Ranallo for having the courage to share the struggle. Recently Ranallo’s mental health came under attack and has chosen to miss a few dates of work. I hope he can battle forth and return to what Ranallo does best and that’s inject excitement and personality into any combat sporting event that Ranallo puts on a headset for. “MAMA f’n MIA!”
