I went to Shokran tonight! A local Moroccan restaurant. It's so pretty and so delicious.
Ambience is couches and gorgeous fabric on the ceilings!
Chicken Bastilla is basically the best reason to go here and you have to try this. It's chicken, almond paste and orange blossom water in a flaky pastry crust with powdered sugar and cinnamon on top. Described by our waiter (a man with a bachelor's and master's in political science and history) as the only good thing to come out of the Spanish Inquisition. (Also got to hear about his favorite overt racism when he first arrived in the US in Oklahoma and got told to go back to his Powwow and seriously he's so much fun and I'm fairly sure he's also the owner. )
Just so much delicious food! Lamb and couscous and kebabs and chicken and it's all so, so, so good.
And the mint tea is delightful. Just a delight.
I literally cannot recommend this place enough if you're in Chicago. It's right off the blue line, very reasonable and just... some of the best food.
