Neither fire nor protests can break the back of the Queen West strip. It's gone through a tremendous amount of change over the years, but it has survived. Sure, parts of it are gentrified, replacing local haunts of your youth with big box furniture stores and chain cafes, but gems definitely remain. Here are some of the most active Shopcastr shops dotting Queen St West:
Design Republic has an eclectic mix of vintage, industrial, and modern pieces, from bar stools to benches and mattresses to mirrors. It's a staple along Queen St for the discerning furniture shopper. Located on Queen at the corner of Bathurst, Design Republic also offers customisable solutions for the home and office.
F as in Frank Vintage does vintage, and the owners have their whole lives. This shop located on Queen near Cameron allegedly has the largest curated selection of vintage clothing in the city, supplying other vintage stores as well as individual shoppers, top shelf unique finds, and vintage rentals. It's a whole different shopping experience, though, accompanied by in-store appearances by djs and artists.
From the ashes of a 6-alarm fire that destroyed the heritage building on Queen at Portland where this family owned cycle shop was for ages, Duke's rebuilt on its original land and is going strong once again. They've got something for every type of cyclist, from the professional to the occasional commuter, a service/repair shop, bike team, and an unstoppable love of all things bike.
A shop for cocktail equipment? Okay! BYOB Cocktail Emporium has many bar-related goods for sale. One stop shopping for the bartender and the barfly at the shop located on Queen at Givens for the portable, the shakable, and – most importantly – the drinkable.
Cabaret Vintage has vintage clothing and jewellry, and an impressive bridal selection. It's a celebrity mecca that has seen the likes of Bjork, Joel Plaskett, Dita von Teese, and so many more. This shop is located on Queen near Palmerston.
The definitive place on Queen West for children's toys, clothes, and décor is Kol Kid. Located on Queen near Euclid, the impeccable white walls of this shop is packed with brightly coloured necessities suitable for the modern parent and their urban kids.
Contemporary and modern furniture for the entire house can be found at BLVD Interiors, from bedroom to home office and everything in between. It's on Queen near Markham and staff are fully knowledgeable and happy to help with colour coordination and suggest design ideas. A bright and spacious showroom helps to see items on their own to imagine them in your own space.
Urban Mode is where shoppers will find ultra modern furniture, décor, and accessories. Just off the beaten path, nestled on Tecumseth just south of Queen, it's a showroom of everything one could imagine to fill the modern condo or items to bring the contemporary décor outdoors. Those looking for the latest trends in furniture should look no further.
Mini Mioche has the best baby basics in organic and eco-friendly fabrics. They not only embrace the #ShopLocal trend but also the #MakeLocal – every piece available in their store is designed and made here in Toronto, with their shop located on Queen at the corner of Manning. They produce stylish, comfortable, and affordable pieces for the little ones, sparing them from the super cutesy or the drab pastels.
Taking a cue from fashion abroad, Deluxe Boutique has clothing and footwear to grace runways. The permanent shop (as opposed to the recent pop-up shop in 2010) is located at on Queen at the corner of Manning and houses collections from a great range of modern designers and fair trade suppliers.
