Pseudo-infection AU where the Shadows choose a sneakier way of taking Inkopolis by possessing and replacing their originals. Meanwhile, some people who realized what’s going on start trying to drive back the Shadows and restore the replaced individuals.
There would be signifiers in the early stages of possession, like darkened ink and eye color and sudden shifts in personality. There’s also a chance for the original to regain control in that stage. However, once the Shadow fully overpowers the original, they overwrite the original personality and take full control. Also, everyone except the people closest to them would remember the Shadow as the original. (Using Vintage as an example, if he gets overtaken by his Shadow, everyone but Omega, Aviators, and Skull would remember him as having always been talkative)
