TASK #11: WRITE A LETTER

Dear Shosh,

I'm not much of a letter writer, and the fact I wouldn't know where to send this if I finish it makes this even more stupid. But it's the only way I know how to talk to you now, I think you've blocked me from everything else. That should be a loud enough message to write to someone else, but I was never good at knowing better.

But I did it. I hit the road, and the world and I are getting acquainted at last. I'm down in Costa Rica right now, surfing all day, learning to make empanadas de piña (which are incredible), and tonight, it's night life with some new friends. Which is part of why I'm writing, I guess.

See, I've got to let you go a little bit. I waited, I really did. I hoped, I prayed, you'd change your mind and turn around, but you didn't. You still haven't as of the writing of this letter. If I don't start letting you go now, I'll never make it. I can't do another 80 years like this.

So, that's it. That's all I wanted to say.

Who ends up with their first love anyway, right? Not many people are that lucky. But, shit, Shosh, I thought we were. We may have been stupid teenagers, but you and I were the real thing. You knew that. If there was ever a love that could have made it, it was ours.

But we didn't, did we? Almost four years later, I should probably admit that. We didn't make it. You've probably got somebody already, and I'm going to explore this thing and see what happens. Who knows, maybe she'll mean as much to me as you do someday. And maybe, on that day, that will stop sounding like bullshit in my head.

Anyway, I'm gonna let go. That's what you wanted, right? No, I know it's not. It's probably what you've got to double down and say now, but this would drive you crazy if you were here. But this is it, it's what we got. We wanted different things, happens all the time...it just never should have happened to us.
