       richie liked bev a lot. well, he liked her, but not that way. he admired her looks ( and knew he wasn’t alone—girls like sally mueller and greta bowie hated beverly like fire, still too young to understand how they could have everything else so easily... and still have to compete in the matter of looks with a girl who lived in one of those slummy apartments on lower main street ), but mostly he liked her because she was tough and had a really good sense of humor. also, she usually had cigarettes. he liked her, in short, because she was a good guy.  //  @shotmade

        he  notes  her  intensity.  hazel  eyes  brooding  high  beneath  her  red  curls.  her  hand  blurs,  lips  pulled  tight  in  a  straight  line.  she  stops,  erases,  he  watches.  fists  thrust  together  then  apart,  the  paper  in  front  of  himself  lies  blank  aside  from  a  few  words.  the  dark  night  was  chilly  no,  it’s  stupid,  it  didn’t  sound  right.  rolling  his  eyes,  he  drops  his  pencil,  licks  his  lips  and  clears  his  throat.  “ h---hey  buh---bb-bev,  what  are  y-yy-you  wuh----w-working  on  ?? ”

       “oh, christ! bevvie,” richie says, groaning and bending forward at the waist to hold a hand out to her. i just can’t get that part right! he thinks, cursing himself for, once again, dropping beverly in the grass. that’s why they’re practicing here so, as she puts it, she won’t break her neck, but it doesn’t mean he feels any better about being the reason she goes home with grass stains on her dress.

       “i don’t know if i’m ever gonna be able to do that part, y’know? i mean--- it ain’t real smooth, and somethin’ about the music...”

15. who do they tend to bicker with the most?

       honestly i think he bickers with bill the most. in the movie it’s obviously eddie, but in the book he and bill have a really solid back and forth. ( i.e. the best part of you ran down your father’s leg ) and i think it’s really mostly bill. he spends a lot of time with bill in the book, so as a kid i think he bickers with him the most. as an adult, i imagine he bickers a lot with the people he’s closest to— people he’s dated, his manager, etc.
