This is a very important twitter account to follow, especially if you are a woman, or if you are a man who genuinely loves and respects women, or if you are any non-binary definition that I haven’t included due to my own admitted ignorance. Today she is doing another RT storm of all the way women are harassed in their daily lives, regardless of age, clothing, or circumstance, and the way we are told to just suck it up and take it. Eye opening and bone chilling. 

On a personal note, this twitter feed gave me the courage to publicly and loudly confront one of these types of people in 2014. I was in a pub in London with a friend, there was a man in the group next to me that I could see was behaving more inappropriately with every drink he took, but his friends just seemed to ignore it. Towards closing time he went past me to the bathrooms and when he came back, he decided to interrupt my male friend and I by leaning across my back to say some random comment I don’t even remember. He very specifically and intentionally put his genitalia up against my back (I was sitting on a low stool at a table) and pressed in. I turned around and pushed him back and said ‘get your filthy dick off of me you asshole’ and he stumbled off a bit stunned. My friend, who has known me for more than a decade, was also a bit stunned, and even more so when I shook my shoulders once, took a sip of my beer, and tried to resume our conversation as normal. :)

Everyday Sexism

I'm going to work tomorrow with my dad and it's mainly outside, so I was talking to him about the weather and what I should wear and then (bearing in mind I'm 15 and most of the customers are 40+ married men) he said "you should probably wear leggings" and I replied "is it going to be that cold?" "No but you can't wear shorts otherwise you'll have everyone ogling you" - Why should I change my outfit instead of men changing their behaviour? It made me sad (and angry) that my dad thought this was just the norm.
