Happy World Outlander Day 2019 Everyone from Scotland! 😄📚❤️📺🏴🇺🇸🎉🎈🥃
Here’s aweesassenachtalk. Take it or leave it, I have things to say.
What a week it’s been for me watching The Outlander ‘Untold’ Season 4 DVD Boxset. I’ve had such an incredible few days watching all the delicious extras! Its easy to forget when you’re on here what it feels like to be truly consumed by Outlander, without all the other nonsense this fandom brings. 15 months ago I started chatting to other bloggers on here about my love of the books and the show and tbh the experience wasn’t and still isn’t what I had expected but I am incredibly grateful for the friends I’ve made, the fanfics I’ve read and the considerate, constructive, thought provoking and just plain fun book/show discussions I’ve had on here. 💻😁👍🏼
Back to the DVD, I’ve enjoyed so much listening to The Official Outlander Podcasts, which I saved until the Season 4 release because I knew it would be a tough draughtlander. 🥵
Listening to Matt, Toni, Maril and all the other producers/writers on the show I’m always completely in awe of the work that they do. Their love for this show, this story, these characters. I have to say that personally, there was not one creative decision that was made this season that I didn’t either love or understand. Listening to some of the podcast discussions I really felt like they understood these characters and their motivations and were interested in exploring every side of them. I just love that tbh because no one is all good or all bad. I get a kick out of the show changes because as much as I love these bloody books (and I do, believe me. I’ve read all 21 Outlander novels. I am obsessed!) But as I said, I have read them. They sit on a shelf by my bed. I can read them whenever I like (and I do). 😍👏🏼📚📚📚
When I watch a TV show, I want it to surprise me, to show me something I haven’t experienced before, explore different characters, relationships and storylines I’m already familiar with. To subvert my expectations of what I think is coming with something unexpected, while still staying true to the characters. Otherwise why am I watching? If it’s just a word for word replay of Diana’s story. (Which btw, would just never even be possible when you consider the practical constraints when working on a television series e.g. time, budget, weather, actor availability, historical accuracy, cultural sensitivity, illness, animal and plantlife conservation, child labour laws etc. etc. etc.) and just does not sound entertaining to me at all, sorry. Diana has sold more than 26 million copies of her Outlander series worldwide and every single one of those readers has favourite lines, chapters, characters, relationships, storylines. It is just not possible to include everything and make everyone happy. All they can do is follow their gut and collective creative interpretation of the source material. That’s it. A lot of them are long time fans and book readers and some have only seen the show. That’s something I always bring up because it’s like okay so everyone on here has their favourite book moments, favourite episodes. I’m never going to tell them that something they enjoyed and that spoke to them on a personal level is fucking stupid, so why would I take that to the writers? But I digress...
The amount of extras on the DVD’s for Season 4 was insane. We got Writer & Producer Commentaries, ‘Untold’ Scenes, Deleted Scenes, BTS Clips, a Gag Reel, even a Bee’s excerpt from Diana. *Squee* I’m so grateful that all this effort was put into giving me even more to love about this Season because it was just one of my favourites! 🥰👏🏼
I cannot even explain how much I am looking forward to Season 5!!! To see the Jamie and Roger relationship develop, how they are going to fit in the Murtagh storyline, The Frasers with their children and grandchildren, Roger singing, The Gathering, Jocasta’s Wedding, Jamie and Claire Ring Agro and Make-up Sex, Adso, THAT Roger scene, More Bonnet Angst, Wolf's Brother... the list goes on. I don’t expect to see all of my favourite book moments, but I know I’ll see some and that makes me so happy. 😄💕🙏🏼📚
Thank you so verra much to the amazing cast, crew, show-runners, writers, producers, directors, casting department, make up, hair, costume and wardrobe, the location scouts, sound editors, production and set designer, VFX and SFX department’s, stunt coordinators, art department, props, greens department (which I didn’t even know existed!) language consultants, musicians, historians, researchers, advisors, drivers and just anyone involved in putting the show together because god! these people bring so much joy to my life and I’m incredibly grateful for all the work that they do. 🙏🏼👏🏼🙌🏻
And honestly if you didn’t enjoy this season then I’m sorry but I’m sure you’ve been banging on about it on SM for months. If my happiness and gratitude annoy you then you are more than welcome to block me.
I could not care less. Do not come and piss in my cornflakes simply because you didn’t get what you wanted. My happiness does not hurt anyone and isn’t up for debate so you can keep your thoughts to yourself or go rant on your own blog about it. 🤫✋🏻
Have a lovely day all! I hope you are enjoying the Season 4 DVD/Bluray release as much as I am! 😄👏🏼❤️
Addendum: Thank you also to the caterers that feed our poor cast. Without them they would surely waste away to nothing haha! 🤭👏🏼💕🌮🍕🥯🧁🍪 @ilovesamheughan 😉
