I started rereading The Golden Compass today and holy moly there is so much more religion in this book than I realized as a child
Like they’re all theology scholars and I just
didn’t realize?
probably because I went to a Catholic school so I was like ‘yes such religion this is normal’
and then the movie came out and the school was telling parents stuff like “DON’T LET YOUR CHILD READ THE BOOKS OR WATCH THE FILM IT’S ATHEIST PROPAGANDA” and all the moms were freaking out a little and all of my friends and I who had already read it were like *sideeye* “I dunno Mom it was fine we didn’t notice anything” and like I hadn’t??? and now I’m rereading it and I only remember bits and pieces of what happens but like I’m pretty sure it’s feminist propaganda more than anything
like Lyra is sorta taught to not respect female Scholars and I got SO! ANGRY! about it lol
but also she’s like this little fireball and I love her I can’t wait for her to CRUSH THE PATRIARCHY (or something idk I don’t remember what happens tbh)
