The Parable of the Shrewd Manager-
Representing the manager as a rat with a piece of crown-shaped cheese in his hands symbolizes the manager’s cunningness and his reward. The shrewd manager’s actions warrant more than a firing, they deserve jail time... or in those days execution. However, the manager is praised for his street smarts and back-alley dealings and is simply let-go. The manager must have known his boss was of good nature, otherwise gambling on his own life was extremely foolish. Much like a rat with cheese in his hands, the manager, by his shrewdness escaped death and secured his reward. The parable is about wisdom, and gives us a glimpse of who God is, his invitation into grace and unexpected mercy.
