I know we've already had the discussion of are ghouls considered a separate race in the Fallout Universe and some people have argued for them to be considered disabled rather than as a separate race and some have had other arguments.
I think everyones input on the topic is valuable and fair given how different games kind of perceive ghouls (and also design them)
However, can i just say---i think its entirely an authentic western human experience for people post war to categorize ghouls as a different race based on their disability and disfiguration? Race is a concept, its not even based in biology, I think itd be totally fair for people to see heavily disfigured people and go "OH youre like. A separate race. A lesser than race. You used to be human but youre not anymore because of the way you look"
Like we dont see a whole lot of race interaction in the games besides stuff built into the system (ie tribes being massacred by the ncr and honest hearts going on), but we don't see a whole lot of discrimination based on skin color throughout the games (i didnt play 1 or 2 so I could be wrong idk) and it seems ghouls have kind of taken on the "mantle" of being the new minority in the United States of America. Its no longer a society where the system was designed to keep black and brown people down, as that system was quite literally blown up, itd be insane to try and enforce racial politics against others when theres no system backing it up.
I think theres a lot to dive in about ghouls and their place in post-war america, as we often see them enslaved, beaten, abused, discriminated against, etc. And it seems to be a national thing as you see the discrimination on both coasts, but what system is backing this up?? What system is backing up the discrimination of ghouls??? Im so curious. Did everyone just decide they're gross and therefore inferior? Like all over the nation?
