just finished rusty’s pov of soul hunt and WOW. everyone needs to go watch it now it’s so freaking awesome. amazing storytelling, improv, and editing on all fronts! i have! so many thoughts!! all good ones!!!

I'm already working on a vsmp drift keychain, so v!drift will be excluded from the response count because I want this to be a new thing that I wouldn't have added otherwise. If you first wanna watch only one pov I'd suggest Rusty's! Iirc it's her project and she is one of only two people who have finished their uploads (and cc only recently uploaded his finale)

oooohhh very good questions, very good...

The last scene of rusty's finale. definitely got me the most yeah. But i think katie's death and the immediate aftermath is probably in second. When rusty is walking away silently for a whole one or two minutes with ruby trying to get her to respond, and then she abruptly stops and just softly states the brutal reality of the situation. That's when it really hits that the time for fun shenanigans is over for rusty and this story is not going to be a happy one. The end screen for that episode with her holding the flowers representing her dead teammates felt like a gutpunch.

It's kind of hard to say what character i find most interesting. my favorite character is rusty (because like how could she not be shes rusty courage), but theres not many specific things about her that intrigue me right now, and i kind of think about katie more because what i've seen about her in different povs intrigues me and i want to watch her pov to see what exactly is going on with her but i cant 😔 I think i have to answer katie, because its so fascinating to me to see the sides of her that each pov shows and try to figure out her thought process through everything

Hmmm rusty's curse... really just how it goes in canon. the people she's close to die while she somehow survives. Honestly besides the idea that she's just unlucky enough to have it, I never really think about why or how the curse exists, because i like that it's never given any sort of explanation or reasoning in canon. Makes it more abstract and mystical.

The Shadows? mhmm... I'm not sure how i'd like it to be approached if there was canon lore for how Shadows come to be, how they coexist with people who dont turn into Shadows when they die, and how they work. But these are the headcanons i've come up with that i like right now:

The land was cursed, and people would become Shadows if they died there because of that, but none of the characters left either because they were trapped there by the worldborder which would fall if there were no more souls (à la Oakhurst in vsmp but they didnt actually know if or why it would fall) and/or because they didnt know the land was cursed. Individual people can also be cursed to become a Shadow when they die, but no one really knows how to do any Shadow curses or even that they exist (Jaw would probably know they exist but while the existence of Shadows was common knowledge among the characters, they don't seem to be well understood even by original Shadows).

In the series, Shadows didn't actually have that many functional ties to literal shadows (which does make sense as theyre more "Shadow of what once was" than literal shadow), but I thought it would be cool if, whenever they 'respawn,' they're reforming themselves from actual darkness. It just gives me an awesome mental image of a Shadow materializing as a dark silhouette and stepping into the light.

I do think that Shadows would have to eat and rest (not sleep necessarily), but only as long as they don't want to reset their body via death. They can get scars from what killed them on their reformed body after they die, but the scars from their original death are the most prominent and never fade.

Some time ago i saw a post about how being around Souls could make Shadows more like them, and vice versa, using rusty and jaw as an example. I like that idea, in the sense that it's hard for Shadows to feel things on their own and a Soul gives them a way to feel things vicariously, and being exposed to the violent, unpredictable tendencies of Shadows so often can easily affect a Soul. If Shadows are shown trust and friendship, then they can learn how to emulate and return it. They can't fear for themselves because there's nothing that can really hurt them, they can't even feel pain, but Souls can be hurt. So they can learn to fear for the Souls that they care about. Like an actual shadow, they can copy and reflect the people around them.

Also i think people dont talk enough about the fact that a bunch of Shadows (including the original design that the others were based on, rusty's) have flowers actually growing on them. I dont even have a coherent point to make about this just something something Shadows exist to cause death but death isn't unnatural and they aren't the antithesis of nature, just part of an imbalance in it. Like when an invasive species takes root and chokes out everything else.
