Why did YOU go Greek?
Why did YOU go Greek?
as told by the SHSU Panhellenic Exec board
Katelyn Mattingly
I went Greek because I craved a close-knit sisterhood and an everlasting bond. From the moment I received my bid, I have never been alone. My sisters have been there for me in good times and bad. College isn't about finding a husband, it is about finding your bridesmaids and I have certainly done that. Greek life has given me so many friendships and opportunities that will last me a lifetime. I don't know where I would be without it! Christina Bays
I knew moving from California to Texas for college was going to be a big change because I wasn't going to know one person at Sam Houston. I grew up as an only child because of the 12 year age difference between my brother and I so I never really had a true "sister" bond which is something I've always wanted. So I knew going greek it was going to be perfect for me and it has been the best decision I have ever made! Haley Jozwiak
I did not know I wanted to go greek. Everyone in my family were pretty anti greek, therefore I did not want to disappoint them, but I decided that I wanted to become a better me and I had heard it was a great networking tool. So, last minute aka an hour before registration ended, I signed up to go greek. Not once since I have went greek have I regretted it. I am a much better woman because of the women, in my sorority & not, in my life. My parents even promote greek life now! So, I signed up to become a better me & never looked back. Katie Coston
I went Greek in order to meet friends who I know will be by my side for the rest of my life. And I can say that I have found that. Being Greek is one of the best decisions I have ever made and I'm glad I did. Being Greek has opened so many opportunities for me to reach out of my comfort zone and explore new things and life and helps Me to grow as a better person each day.

I knew I was going greek from the moment my mom and other family talked to me about their experience. It was always awesome going to visit the chapter my mom was apart of and seeing all she accomplished and I wanted to follow in her footsteps. But I also went greek because I wanted to be apart of something that was bigger than me and grow to be a better person. I also wanted to have a group of girls that I could call my sisters. Going Greek was one of the best decisions that I have made, I have made so many friends in my own chapter as well as in others, couldn't imagine not going Greek!
Melissa Gonzales
I chose to go Greek because I was looking for genuine and lasting friendships. Going Greek was the best decision I've made because not only did I gain best friends in my own sorority, but I've gained true friendships throughout the Panhellenic chapters and the rest of Greek life. I am eternally grateful for my sorority and the perfect sisters it has brought me. I didn't know what I was missing before I joined my chapter, but I don't know where I would be without it now.

I went Greek because I wanted to be apart of something that will make me better as a person alongside an amazing group of women as well as carrying on my great grandmothers legacy in our sorority so that we are not only family, but sisters.
Cassidy Lane
I went greek because I wanted to get involved with the University, I honestly never heard much about what sorority were like or what they did. So once I joined, my life was turned up-side down, for the better! Not only did I get to get involved with the University, but so many other doors opened in my life. I also received life time friends, met my best friend, and now I get to share this experience with my little sister, who is only 14, who now wants to follow in my footsteps and become a legacy. Knowing that my little sister wants to be a sorority woman is the best feeling and knowing that I can share my love for all my for my sorority and my sorority sisters is AMAZING!
