This anime series is definitely an emotional roller coaster. Dealing with very serious and dark themes such as physical abuse and self harm.
It shows a lot of raw emotions within the characters. For the Wakatsuki twins they're dealing with an abusive father who seems to take more interest his public image than his family. The twins are very close to begin with and even end up in a scandal where they're believed to being incestuous. The father tries to separate them but Shusuke won't allow that. He leaves behind his home and school life to leave/run away with her. In the end the twins seem even closer than before and it can be left to interpretation on their current relationship. In the anime they are last seen holding hands.
