I wonder what the actresses of the 1920's would say about todays film industry,Rosalind Russell for playing the "exceptionally wealthy, dignified ladylike women"yet never letting herself become a sex symbol.(not that being a sex symbol makes you any less of a women but using your sexuality to attain power or recognition is an easy way out to get fame in my opinion Rosalind and countless other females have attained power and recognition through virtues and action not by showing some skin so why cant you) The roaring twenties was a great time for the middle class women.Encapsulated in the development of the image of the young, urban, independent “New Woman.” Rather then the damsel that needs the aid of the male protagonist. So with the wave of strong independent rule bending lead ladies of film to start a mass influence in the social norm they cut their hair, raised their skirts, drove cars, smoked cigarettes, profoundly changing American’s ideas of what resonated as acceptable female behavior.Pioneers were made Mae West come on! (Women knew their right but kinda kept it on the hush till a few decades later)Mae wrote all her scripts all she said on screen she wrote damn well. I cant understand the term "chick flick" Other then a film emphasizing on the themes of love and marriage the most cliché of themes.Ive seen exceptional films with a women protagonist like Mansfield Park,Mona Lisa smile,Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind(more indie) Whip it,and so sososososososo much more like come onnnn i cant wait for things to change and for another giant social leap so that we can finally function as one well oiled machine of social understanding for some time to last.
