"...I did warn you. I am a bad person."
Family Headcanon #30 - Babysitting Duty
As the Boar-Chaser children go, Amelie is the easiest for her uncles (and aunts) to look after when required. For starters, there’s only one of her, and although she has a tendency to ask an exhausting number of questions, and can get a bit carried away in her games of make-believe, she is mostly well-behaved.
The sheer size of Hjolrin and Arlain’s brood makes looking after them when Arlain is away and Hjolrin has to go out hunting a daunting prospect. Their saving grace is that the older children can keep their younger siblings in check, and that out of the Boar-Chaser clan, they are probably the calmest children overall.
They are also nothing compared to Haaki and Sibby’s children, whom Hjolrin, Trond, and, privately, Haaki consider the biggest handful. Einan and Vinnela definitely take after their parents in terms of their adventurous spirit -- Vinnela, thankfully, is more like her mother, but Einan shares Haaki's knack for getting himself into trouble which honestly wasn't his fault, he swears, and anyway the vase was broken like that when he got there. Trond has saved Haaki’s life twice in the past and still holds that babysitting for him incurs a greater debt.
“Whose blood is that?”
“...Would it be more or less concerning if I said it was someone else’s blood?”
“So I’ve heard some things…”
WHATEVER HAAKI SAID, IT’S NOT TRUE.
“You know what? I like you.”
‘Good.’
It was as gruff and blunt as it sounded, but whether that was Hjolrin’s intention was another question. As soon as the word was out of his lips he kicked a foot against the floor and tightened his grip on the edge of his chair, hand hidden beneath the table.
‘I mean, ‘m glad. ‘S a relief.’
Gods forbid we become friendly with each other.
“Would it be so terrible? I am willing to call a truce right now and start over.”
Did you just smell me?
“...If I say ‘you smell nice,’ does that make up for it?”
❝ You’re a special and unique snowflake. Live the dream. ❞
“Why do I feel as though that is not a compliment?”
