Sibyl The Unnamed: A Fallen Oracle

Backstory

As a child, Sibyl’s cursed hands and prophetic dreams made her a pariah, until she was taken from her family and forced into a new life. Pampered and isolated except for a handful of other would-be oracles, she learned divination, openly spoke about her dreamlike visions, and tended to the priests and their temple. When her premonitions proved promising, she became one of many Sibyls: oracles admired for their beauty and purity as much as their gift. She was popular; her cursed hands and marked face made her exotically grotesque. She spent her days entranced by potent cocktails of psychedelic teas or incense—catalysts for prophecies given to the rich and powerful. Sibyl hardly knows herself, but she knows she no longer wants to be used.

Personality

Sibyl is naive and secretly hopeful, but she is not easily impressed. After years spent in and out of intoxication, she can be spacy and unfocused, and her responses are often deadpan. She is rather nosy, and very chatty, especially when uncomfortable. Sibyl is an honest, gentle person seeking acceptance and protection, and will weigh it against frightening costs. Sibyl is not overly cunning or competitive; she will avoid hurting others unless threatened.

Cuma is about 30 minutes by car from Naples or about 2 hours on public transit. That means a visit would eat up an entire day of our trip and I’d already decided against it when I stopped to poke through the boxes of vintage postcards packed onto tables outside a shop in Piazza Dante.

This is the card waiting on top for me to find. I knew before I turned it over to check the caption what it was.
