A demonstrative video of the game. This is the final version of the game, the one from the exhibition.
In a tutorial with Phil, while talking about the differences between Western and Eastern education in Europe, particularly in the rural area, I thought of a good way to show this contrast, simultaneously promoting the charity.
School Starter Kits for Children
2 different boxes next to each other:
one has pristine stationery, sleek pens, pretty notebooks, steel ruler etc.
the other one has worn stationery: chipped ruler, broken pencil, dirty page, etc.
The boxes could be presented in either a realistic video or a game and on a table in the exhibition. The game implies choosing a box and triggering a scenario. The catch is that it will be the same one regardless what box you choose: Whatever you choose, it takes you to the “bad” box. -> You have the same lack of choice as a child. I still need to think about the exact scenario and how to generate it.
Through this, I am hoping to suggest a lot of the children in Eastern countries that face an education crisis do not have a say in their education, nor are provided with a proper environment for learning. Most of them drop out or are forced to attend precarious institutions. Showing the school materials children from different countries have triggers a feeling of compassion for the child stricken by misfortune and, hopefully, a wish to respond to the call to action.
The call to action could be to send a complete and proper School started kit to a child in need. However, the lack of school materials is just one of many problems these children have and I’m afraid it might limit one’s wish to do more for them if they are given a specific action to do (to send the kits).
