You know what?
It's time to hear it for the Dancers For the hardest working bottom step in the biz For the turns and the kicks and the hits and the holds For the glorified backgrounds For the moving scenery It's time to hear it for the Dancers For the sweat and the blood that's shoved to the back For the aches and pains that get drowned out by the note that gets held just a little too long For the hearts that sit waiting as the encore cheers continue Because they know they're not cheering for them It's time to hear it for the Dancers For the feet thumping on solid concrete Just trying to show how talented they are But all they get Is a little two step clap To reveal just how much they love the Art It's time to hear it for the Dancers For their smiles and their love For their passion and their will For their dedication to the sound For the survival of their body For the scratches and the scrapes that go unnoticed by all For the tears and the breaks For the gives and the takes It's time to hear it for the Dancers For the skill it takes to hold your head high Even when your face is hidden Because the stadiums don't sell out for them Even if it's their skill coating the aisles the people walk down Because damn what it takes To get one bloody break To coax the love from the faces From the blacked out places On a stage where a star Shines bright from afar And blazes too bright For the eyes to catch sight Of the motion and power that swirls in the background without a single breath to take before they're throwing their power right into the stage only to break it apart and erupt in pure light Shining From every last fiber in their body before they sweep you away in the visions of sound and color and flow and ebb like the waves hoping to pull you out to the place where everything is silent and there is only Movement And there In that place where you hear nothing You will look to the Dancers Because with a lift of their finger A flick of their wrist Tilt of the head Pivot and sigh They will let you hear the music that binds them So hell, let's give it up for the Dancers. Finally. . . . You know, I was heartbroken when Mad T closed. Heartbroken. I've spoken out time and time again how much I loved the show, from being an Alice in Wonderland fan since I was a kid, to genuinely enjoying my fellow performers, especially the forever talented band. But you know what? It's bloody time we hear it for the Dancers. The hardest working bottom step in the business. Even if it's just for a short while, we'll step into the limelight. And dang, if we know how to make some noise.
