Austin, TX shows this week 9/20 - 9/25
It's a wonderful week for music in Austin. The party starts with the band Twin Peaks on Tuesday at Mohawk, purveyors of my favorite album of 2016 so far, Down In Heaven. Opening for them are Kentucky's young and dirty, epic-arena-sized-scuz-rockers White Reaper; slingers of one of the best albums of last year. Following that up on Wednesday is the preferred soundtrack of every vacationing millennial female, Beirut - at Stubbs. Two of the best singer-songwriters - one old-school, one new-school - Rocky Votolato and Chris Staples, get together at the Parish on Saturday to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Votolato's seminal (and essential) record, Makers. Staples's new album Golden Age is a recent chill wordsmith's delight. Wrapping everything up on Sunday is the one year anniversary of Austin's best/worst new venue, Sidewinder. Witness the beautiful audible romance between the lead singer of the great rock band Cymbals Eat Guitars and his girlfriend who is the lead singer of the exciting up-and-coming punk band, Field Mouse who both have excellent new albums out now.
