I know ancient Egypt was pretty insistaint on giving pharaohs the best afterlife they can, but I kind of hate the final arc for it a little?
Like the siblings are soooo instant to get Atem to remember just so he can finally pass over?
Did they ever ask what he wanted?

I don't think Atem even knew what he wanted. He's got a godawful track record when it comes to making potentially life-altering decisions on his own (penalty games, betting his life, "SLIT MY THROAT YUGI" "I'LL DO IT KAIBA", the entire DOMA arc, etc etc) and he knows it.
The whole millennium world+ceremonial duel thing reads like he's terrified of fucking up again so he's just going with what the Ishtars said he should do. They know better, right? They're the tombkeepers after all, they're the experts, the hell do I know about being an ancient spirit, for all I know it could destroy everyone I love all over again, I don't want to risk that—
But if he and Yugi had talked it out for even a few minutes during that month long wait, surely one of them would have suggested "ehhhhh the afterlife can wait."
